Week 31: Olympic tennis - Wimbledon (grass ;) ) - singles

Heather Wins!
6-2 6-2

Next up is Kirilenko who went through after a returement in Set 2 - tough, but I feel she has a chance.

Not sure about the call at 0-15. Might have been in. Lucky winner on the final point as Ana takes first set.

After the washout yesterday, all of our girls are in action today:

Heather 2nd on Court 17
Laura 2nd on Court 18
Bally 3rd on Court 18
Anne & Bally 5th on Court 18

Hopefully the courts have dried out overnight

Elena goes out, but a good performance.
4-6 (4)6-7

Hopefully we'll see her again at some point in singles somewhere. Can she get protected ranking - on a 6+ month lay off I think she at least qualifies to apply(?) - if she wants to carry on?

She is at least in doubles action in about 90+ minutes.

Well done to Ms Baltacha. Good match. Actually, amazing work by the women all around. For four Wild Cards (whatever the technical term)  to get three wins and a good three-set match against the 8th seed for the first round is tremendous. Baltacha's good second round match is icing on cake material. That said, do hope that one or other of the youngsters goes through to the 3rd. You never know ....

Pfffff she seems to be having trouble with the serve again after such an excellent start. Maybe it is something physical with her arm.
