Week 30 - ITF ($50K) - Lexington, USA Hard

Off to a good start 3-0*

I don't think this is streamed, but Boggo's match in the parallel ATP Challenger, up next on the same court is on live

A third break, *5-1
Johanna has had break points in every one of Albanese's service games so far, converting 2/6.

And she serves it out, 6-1

A nice efficient set there, serving much better than her first round match, albeit against a higher quality opponent. Only faced one break point against her, and only 2 DF's (which is a vast improvement).

Another break against Johanna on only the second break point of the set (gifted to Albanese by another DF). 1-5*

Johanna now serving pretty badly at only 29% this set, which is about where she was in R1 against Sema. Also having little impact this set against the Albanese serve.

And that's the set gone, 1-6

JK did finally get a break point in the final game, but failed to convert. Albanese only hads two in the set, but converted both.

This decider could go either way. Come on Johanna, pick it up

Yes, something to mitigate the possibility of heat stroke. Ice baths or the ice jackets also mentioned, seems sensible.

A break might have been a good thing for Johanna at that particular juncture, let's hope it was timely.

Johanna strikes first, *4-2

Serve had been dominating until then with both girls serving their best of the match and winning 75%+ of points behind 1st serves.
Johanna got 40-15* and broke on the second break point,

But, immediately she hands it back, broken to 15, 4-3*

I get the feeling nerves are startin to play a leading role for both here.

5-4*
Come on Johanna break her here. Spare us the anxious misery of a tie-break.

No such luck! *5-5

NB: Just read the WTA/ITF rule 6.iii - womens matches must be suspended when the temperature reaches 32.2°C - which is right about where we are on court throughout this tournament. I presume ATP/ITF could be different slightly, so those matches would continue.

Yes! 6-5*

A DF brought up deuce in the game, but JK held firm after facing down three break points from six more deuces.

Phew!

Break break break break break break break break break break!

Johanna been on court very nearly 6 hours in her two singles matches so far! And, a doubles in between.

And only needs the one!!!!
6-1 1-6 7-5

Goodness she doesn't like to make it easy does she?

Her serving in set 3 was much better than previously in the tournament. Hopefully she can carry that forward.

Good points already so far this week then. Could get better. Her potential opponents are currently on court:

Shelby Rogers WR: 293 CH: CurrentOR Aiko Nakamura: WR: 254 CH: 47 (Aug, 2007)

Either of which seem like a decent chance to overcome. Rogers is currently a set and a break up.

Another win might see her challenge Naomi for the GB #5 spot?

Well played again Johanna!

Johanna still has some work to do on the consistence of her service but it when it goes in it seems to be pretty effective.
1st set serving:-
52% 1st serves in
77% won on 1st serve
58% won on 2nd serve
3 Double faults

But, it's a bad start to Set 2, broken immediately, to 15, with a DF contributing to it, 0-2*

Match suspended - heat. Same as round 1, but again, other courts seem to be continuing on?
It's at least 32° out there and 60% humidity, so pretty opressive.

do they have access to ice jackets over there? i've seem them use them at AO before.

Boggo's due on after this match as well, you'd think the heat would favour Mitchell over him having come from Oz.
