Boys: AEGON Junior International Roehampton - Grade 1 (Weeks 25-26)

This tournament which bizarrely has qualifying on one day 3 days before the main draw has featured British success in the last 2 years (Liam Broady/James Marsalek). A pre-qualifying event at Boodles yesterday and today determined 6 main draw wildcards in addition to Evan Hoyt and Peter Ashley.

Toby Mitchell and Chris Pearce both feature in qualifying despite playing in current ITF events overseas.

Lewis Roskilly, Samm Butler, David Fox, James Elliott, Robbie Ridout, Sam Hutt, Tom Hill, Clay Crawford, Joshua Page and Jonathan Cornish also appear in qualifying. It therefore looks like Scott Clayton, Jonny O'Mara, Myles Orton and Joshua Sapwell if not injured were amongst those successful in gaining main draw wildcards

All the results from the play-off for wildcards are on the LTA website. 12 players split into 3 round robin groups of 4. The groups finished as follows:

Group A

Scott Clayton 3 wins
Jathan Malik 2
Clay Crawford 1
Jack Findel-Hawkins 0

Group B

Jonny O'Mara 3
Joshua Sapwell 2
James Elliott 1
Samm Butler 0

Group C

Myles Orton 3
Tommy Bennett 2
Tom Hill 1
Lewis Roskilly 0

The top two in each group win the main draw wildcards

I watched some of the lads playing on Tuesday and Wednesday but very difficult to know who was who!!!

Yesterday the rain put paid to any play on the outside courts but I was happy to chat to Myles Orton, Lewis Roskilly and Ben Stride all of whom train locally at Bisham Abbey.

Myles was scheduled to warm up against Gilles Simon but the weather put things back and he ended up playing Dolgopolov.

Clay Crawford was the one Brit to beat two top 100 players to qualify, comprehensively beating Dojas and Weidinger. Jonathan Cornish narrowly missed out, losing 7-5 in the third to Karlovskiy

A decent day for the boys with 3 reaching round 3 - the 2 seeds plus Kyle. Unfortunately the ITF reversed Evan's R1 victory. Kyle has the chance to avenge a savage defeat by the top 1995 boy in TE14s - Milojevic beating him 2 & 0 in the 2009 European U14 Championships final

Good luck to the boys today, would be great to see all 3 winning again.

I suspect Liam is our best hope but then his form has been not great in 2012
