Yeah, even Robbo played better than that.

That was unbelievable! Very poor... You could say they (Bally and Anne) should be rewarded for their years of service by receiving an Olympics WC but cant see them getting past R1 to be honest.

Just watched the interview with Ms Robson (and Ms Watson) courtesy of Steven's link. To show that kind of self-analysis and self-possession (not to mention a rather delightful self-deprecating humour) after a disappointment indicates more maturity than in most "mature" adults I know!

Yes, that's very true, she tends to give very good and very self-aware interviews.

That wasn't the kind of maturity I meant though - I meant the kind of thing that comes with maturing as a tennis player (as she alluded to herself in the interview) like more consistency. I know that's not a given, but she was still growing fairly until fairly recently and having a more settled body must help, both with consistency and injury avoidance, the latter in turn allowing the kind of training that should improve consistency even further.

I believe because Hev and Laura are going to be recommended for the doubles WC, its likely to be Bally/Anne for the singles.

Do you think GB will get two places if nobody gets in direct?

I wouldn't be surprised if one of these years Laura had a grass court season similar to her Wimbledon Junior year. In that year while not expected to win she was clearly a danger and not a player that the top juniors would like to face early on. However in each tournament preceding Wimbledon, when losing to a player in one tournament she beat them in the next tournament. She was clearly gaining confidence and improving from event to event.
Watch out for surprise wins in Nottingham, Birmingham and Eastbourne.

Of potential relevance to Heather, should she upset Goerges is that the expected third round opponent Serena Williams is 5-0 down in the final set to Virginie Razzano

I would say there is practically no chance of getting 2 WC's looking at the Criteria.

Final Qualification Places (ITF Places)

Final qualification places (ITF places) shall be determined by the ITF for the singles events, based on the

following factors:

 i) Recognised World Ranking

ii) Whether the NOC is represented in the Tennis Event

iii) Number of players on site

 iv)  Geographical location.

After a 25 minute game with 8 matchpoints Razzano wins 6-3, so Serena loses in the first round of a slam for the first time

But anyway that really is a topic for another thread.

Very well done by Heather - Could be a good match against Georges.

And Serena has just been knocked out by Razzano!

That is the burning question. My best guess would be 50/50 thus sitting on the fence. Bally I think is 100% certain given what she said the other day.
