RE: Weeks 22 & 23: French Open (Roland-Garros) (red clay)

Enjoyed watching great match from Heather on Tuesday but unfortunately won't get to see today's so good luck to her.  As folk have commented tremendous serving ( and on average quicker than Andy's today  wink )

I read somewhere that Olympic qualification list gets released on 28th June. So maybe LTA will be able to put forward wildcard choices based on grasscourt season performances too....

Finger's crossed Tipsy's match finishes with the 3rd set, but it's a bit close at the moment I think Heather has had quite long enough to wait.

I hope the Isner/Matthieu match isn't going to the same length as Isner/Mahut. . . ITV are not going to put Heather's match on until that match is finished. 7all, deuce in the final set at the moment. Heather is at *1-2

Although that's frustrating, I don't actually have a problem with it:  ITV4's been following the absorbing Isner/Mathieu encounter for the better part of four hours & it's in its dying (I hope! ) stages, while Hev's match has only just got under way.  I'm pretty sure the Beeb would have done the same - or conceivably  made use of one of its other channnels, an option which probably isn't available to ITV.   ITV4's also doing its best to keep viewers updated on progress in Hev's match.

I'm not saying they were wrong - I'm watching it myself! I'm just hoping it doesn't go to 71-69. . .

Man, Heather is really having to fight hard but has managed to break back in the 2nd.
*2-2.

Not easy when your opponent has the heavier shot by some margin.

3-2*

It's tough when Goerges is playing well and your style cannot go toe to toe with her. You really have to be inventive and try to play with more depth to counter the big hitting.

Agreed that Heather played OK. but to cause an upset she needed to be at her best today, certainly some better serving would have helped. It's difficult against an opponent who hits the ball as hard and aggressive as Goerges for Heather to impose herself. Goerges' winners to unforced errors ratio was largely just about good enough to be in control of the match.

Not a bad match from Hev but JG just too good, more weight of shot.
But a good week for Hev.

It wasn't easy today against Goerges playing well. The scoreline is pretty representative of the match. One thing the commies picked up on was that her return of second serve was all too often in the middle of the court and not deep enough. Many things can still be improved and I'm sure she will continue to work on them.

Pleased with the tourny overall. Defended all of her points and now doesn't have too much coming off for the rest of the year (except two big counting scores from Toronto and Shrewsbury) so hopefully can continue to move up the rankings.

Hoping to possibly see her in Birmingham.

Good effort by Hev, service speeds down on last match but still up on last year.
Thought she tried to be more aggressive in the second and had some success but the German was very good and probably will at least reach the quarters. Now playing better than last year and top 75 by the end of the year is a realistic target.

She wasn't quite on 'tip-top' energy was she? I think an earlier match would have suited her more. It must be almost impossible not to feel nervous all day before such a match, and that must sap some of one's energy.

Persobally I much prefer watching really good players playing at their best rather than being much bothered about what noises they may be making.

Go, Shazza !  smile

And seriously, re Errani, I can't say that I even particularly noticed an issue earlier ( my hearing is going a bit  wink  ), but I did enjoy her tennis.

Result!  Dominika Cibulkova (15) takes out Shriekarenka (1) in straight sets! biggrin       All I need now to turn a thoroughly miserable week off work with shingles into rapture is Klara Zakopalova (unseeded) to dump out Shriekapova (2) in their L16 match & Angelique Kerber (10) to down the almost equally noisy Sara Errani (21) in their QF...
