Go, Shazza !  smile

And seriously, re Errani, I can't say that I even particularly noticed an issue earlier ( my hearing is going a bit  wink  ), but I did enjoy her tennis.

Are you implying that Dominika didn't deserve her victory, Indy, because from what I saw, she most certainly did?!!

My beef with Shriekarenka is that she knows she makes the unholy noises she makes, yet is unrepentant & refuses to do anything about them.  I don't buy her "excuses" for them, so I'm equally unforgiving.  Totally unacceptable, IMHO! furious   Nothing, but nothing, would persuade me to shell out good money for a ticket to watch a live match in which she was involved, thereby allowing my eardrums to be assaulted indiscriminately, so I'd happily turn down the offer of a free seat for a court at a Grand Slam tournament in which she was likely to be involved.  Given the choice of watching her on a show court & another, less noisy player, on a lesser court on TV, I'll unfailingly opt for the latter!  Since I generally have that choice with a TV broadcast, rather than simply mute the sound, which I'm loath to do because I like to hear peripheral sound effects, if not the grunts, I tend to seek any available alternative.

Go, Klara!

For the record, IMHO, both Errani & Kuznetsova were unbelievably noisy today, hence my earlier comment! furious

I don't always agree with SC, but I'm with her 100% on this issue! I used to watch mens' and ladies' tennis pretty equally, but I hardly ever watch the WTA tour these days and it is the noise that has put me off. Yes, I know the men make noises as well, but it is much lower in pitch and so not as offensive to the eardrums.

It's interesting how the shrieking issue causes so much debate. I honestly don't really notice it during matches, even with Azarenka and Sharapova.

I was still pleased to see Cibulkova get the win today, because she was playing really good tennis and she always stayed positive even when Azarenka was fighting back in the second set. So often the lower ranked players deserve to beat the top players but don't actually quite believe they can do it or just get too nervous, so it was impressive the way Cibulkova got over the line (in contrast to Seppi against Djokovic)

I also don't really notice it if I am truly concentrating on the tennis.
Just my two cents.

Err no.  My comments didn't remotely imply that at all   confuse  And the pocket rocket indeed played well and deserved to win though Azarenka was far away from her best form.  As she herself said, she seems to need a rest.

Interesting the huge divergence in the effect the players' noises have on different people's enjoyment.  It quite honestly has minimal effect on me. Anyway, each to their own.  Though I'm glad to see I'm not alone here and not in some way strangely lacking in awareness smile

People's ears are different. I can hear high noises that my husband can't hear at all - ok he is fairly deaf now, but it has been true all the nearly 50 years we have been married. Perhaps my ears are more sensitive to high-pitched noises? The grunting of the men doesn't bother me.

No need to:  with her on one side of the net & bloody Errani on the other, I have no intention whatsoever of watching it! furious

And yet again I'm in full agreement with SC! Time to catch up on some chores tomorrow - unless of course the second mens' semi is still playing. . .

I think De Brito is still in a class of her own.
The noise she can produce takes me back to my childhood and the hideous rising and falling wail of the air raid sirens.

I actually find the noise the men make more annoying than the women.

The spaniards in particular sound like they are doing something that should be done in private. And i say this as a great fan of Rafa

De Brito is in B'ham now, I saw her this afternoon, utter silence during knock up time, and the occasional throaty grunt while playing. Not really obtrusive and not that loud.
