Well it got less one-sided in the second set, but Djoker still edged it 7-6(4)

Andy didn't play well at all, too many uncharacteristic unforced errors, and the serve wasn't firing. He isn't going to beat the world #1 if his serve is off.

He never looked as though he was going to win it, IMHO. cry

Yes, a bit disappointing, especially given his amazing past record in Masters Finals, even against the top players.

Still, 590 points more than last year and it will mean that Muzz has more than 8000 points for the first time since just before his 2008 Madrid Masters title points came off in October 2009. That was also the last time he had more points than Nole! I would say getting more than 8000 points is harder now than it was then - that was the summer when Rafa was suffering from endless injury niggles and Nole was not playing anywhere near the level he usually plays at now.

I'm far more positive, by the end of the second set Andy was fractionally the better player and would have been favourite to win the decider IMO, but committed too many silly errors in the TB to give him that opportunity.

Andy was rusty due to not enough matches and Novak served better but other than that very promising, he was winning the vast majority of all the long rallies by the end. Novak played better than at the OZ open.

Didn't see this.  But I did hear that Andy was blaming his return rather than his serve.  Maybe looking at stats it wasn't as good as it can be, but seems Mr Serve so often gets an easy ride in the Murray self assessment compared to Mr Return     Not that I've got a thing about Andy's serve wink

Anyway good that he at least got to the final here and was latterly very competitive with Novak after the IW repeat disaster.

I was surprised to hear Andy mention only his poor returning - his serve, particularly in the first set, was definitely below par.

And he always seems to have trouble with the rest of his game if he doesn't serve well, the one seems to hang on the other.
