Andy's first oponent is now known - Alejandro Falla, who came through the first round when Denis Istomin retired in the second set.
Wasn't Falla the guy who gave Fed a nasty scare in the first round somewhere, last year or the year before? Anyway Andy has met him once before, in LA in 2010, and beaten him in straights - the first set was a tb but the second was 6-1. Andy SHOULD win but after two weeks ago I'm not thinking of betting my house on it. Fingers crossed very hard that Andy gets through this first match and carries on to go deep.

First match on the main court tomorrow, 11am local, 3pm UK. Good job Andy seems to have got over his aversions to early matches. Let's hope no other problems arise.
Andy wins 6-2 6-3, in a match with more service breaks than the WTA!
This is the 7th time Andy has played this tournament; the other 6, he has gone out in the first round 4 times, lost in the semis once, and won the tournament the other. So hopefully we can now look forward to a deep run!
I actually think Raonic is in most ways the type of player I would take Andy in good form to take out fairly comfortably.
But you can never be sure in a best of three match on the day and while ( winning ) match practice I think would have been helpful here, I guess he'll take it.
