Boys & Girls: 29th Copa Gerdau de Tenis, Brazil - Grade A (Week 12)

The quartet who took part in the Banana Bowl stay for the COSAT Circuit climax. Luke Bambridge takes on the Chile finalist whilst Georgina Sellyn plays a Peruvian with a high win-loss ratio. If she's successful then Swedish Fed Cup player Ellen Allgurin is a likely opponent for the second week running.

Boys R1 (L64)

(12) Luke Bambridge (GBR) v Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (USA)

Luca Corinteli (USA) v Evan Hoyt (GBR)

(7) Joshua Ward-Hibbert (GBR) v Matias Franco Descotte (ARG)

Girls R1 (L64)

Ferny Angeles Paz (PER) v Georgina Sellyn (GBR)

I don't have scores yet but Luke and Josh won, whilst Evan lost as expected. They will both need big upsets to go futher though. Luke plays the inform Argantinian Mateo Nicholas Martinez, who has reached the semifinals at least of all the 5 COSAT events he has played this year. Josh tackles Mathias Bourgue of France, who won the title here 2 years ago.

Good news as Luke and Josh have won through to the doubles final. That means Luke has defended his points from last year, keeping him close to the top 50 and probable Grand Slam cut-off point. Josh is just 1 win away from a remarkable 3 titles in successive Grade A tournaments contested (he missed the Mexican Grade A at the start of the year) - a very rare feat - having won the Orange Bowl and Australian Open with Liam Broady.

It may be possible to see the final, as there is a live stream ( http://tenisbrasil.uol.com.br/tenisbrasiltv/  ) - it just depends on whether they keep it on after the singles. Play starts at 1pm GMT with the girls singles semi between Swedish Fed Cup player Ellen Allgurin and the one remaining Brazilian, Beatriz Haddad Maia (incidentally the other semi features the remarkable rise of Tornado Black, who shared 2 matches with Maia Lumsden in the under 14s earlier this year). Second match on the streamed court is the semi between 2 players familiar to regular followers of the juniors circuit, having played Brits several times: Mathias Bourgue v Kaichi Uchida. The doubles final is the third match on, so probably around 5pm

Doubles Final

(4) Bambridge/Ward-Hibbert (GBR) v Cachin/Halys (ARG/FRA)

Two long singles semis (Haddad maia won in 3 and Bourgue/Uchida have just split sets) so the doubles final will probably not start until around 6.30pm GMT

From @martindweston
"@LukeBambridge40 & Josh Ward-Hibbert are Boys Doubles Champions 2012. A good day for the 2 Nottingham lads!"

I don't know the score, having being away for 90 minutes, but possibly the match was switched to another court (girls doubles currently showing on the stream)

They were on the stream at one point but I had to go too, so I don't know the final score or why they were showing another match when you returned.

Bourgue won the final set of the singles semi quicker than I anticipated 6-1, which probably explains why they had just enough time to complete the doubles before I returned. The win should move Josh up to around 15 and Luke to around 50

Doubles Final

(4) Bambridge/Ward-Hibbert (GBR) d. Cachin/Halys (ARG/FRA) 6-2 7-6(2)
