Muzz has beaten 2 of the top 3 players in the world at a tournament before (Rafa WR 1 and Fed WR 3 to win Toronto in 2010) but is going to have to go somewhere he has never gone before to win this tournament - as far as I can tell, he has never beaten 3 of the top 7 players in the world in the same tournament.
The closest he has come was beating 3 of the top 8 (8, 7 & 6 to win Montréal in 2009) and 3 of the top 9 twice - 9, 7 & 3 to win Miami 2009 and 6, 9 & 2 to reach the semis of the Masters Cup in Shanghai in 2008.

he should gain a lot of points though at Miami and IW, was he injured last year, or out in early rounds, the other top 3 are all defending hundreds, he's defending 10 or so.
Yes, I would expect Andy to gain some significant ground. The top 4 could close up quite a bit since last year Djokovic beat Nadal in both finals with Federer a semi finalist in each.
Re injury last year, no, Andy's problems were only really in the mind as he played confused **** after his pasting by Djokovic in the Aus Open final. Great to see him sounding and more importantly playing so much better this year after his good showing in Australia.
