A party of British boys joins the COSAT circuit for the next 3 Grade 2s (others arrive later). Clay Crawford has a tricky draw against a French seed who has reached the final in his last 2 tournaments. Jonny O'Mara has tweeted an early win in 36 degree heat

didnt happen Im afraid davidc /guys. Honest assessment from jonny was that the guy was a very smart clay courter and had too much for him today-tried to change things up but couldnt get him out of his stride, didnt come close in two straight sets. Obv dissappointed but he realises that he and all the british boys are a bit underplayed on clay at this time of year so hoping to do better next week after this weeks court time. Our courts here in Arbroath are blaize-which is like a poor mans clay-so hes not bad on clay having played on them since he was 4/5 so even though he states hard court now as his favourite surface I actually think hes pretty good on the dirt-well lets hope so for the next few weeks anyway.
Thanks for the extra feedback and information - I have to confess that I have never come across blaize courts (I clearly haven't spent enough time north of the border), but hope they prove a good grounding for the challenges of 'the dirt'
It transpires that Jonny wasn't the last Brit standing. The ITF have reversed Tom's result, and he has gone on to the quarter-final, where he meets a fast-rising American, who beat someone in the top 20 in his last tournament.
