The main draw for the under 18s starts on Monday, with the same Brits as in the Eddie Herr - this time Evan Hoyt did not have to qualify. There is also an under 16 event starting today

All the other boys played early today. Apart from Liam's result I know that Luke lost as expected in straight sets.
David, was Liam's first round match a potential banana skin, or was it more likely just a slow start from him today ?
Judging from Kahlke's record (he lost to Scott Clayton in the Cyprus final in September for instance) I would say more the latter.
Under 18 R1
(1) Dominic Thiem (AUS) d. Luke Bambridge (GBR) 7-5 6-1 Jordan Angus (GBR) d. Pedro Guimaraes (BRA) 3-6 6-0 6-2 (Q) Mateo Nicolas Martinez (ARG) d. Joshua Ward-Hibbert (GBR) 6-3 7-5 (5) Kyle Edmund (GBR) d. Trey Strobel (USA) 6-2 7-5 Evan Hoyt (GBR) d. (Q) Mazen Osama (EGY) 6-2 6-2 Konstantin Gerlakh (RUS) d. R2
(10) Kimmer Coppejans (BEL) v Jordan Angus (GBR) Kai-Wen Lai (TPE) v (5) Kyle Edmund (GBR) (6) Julien Cagnina (BEL) v Evan Hoyt (GBR) Bernardo Casares (BRA) v (2) Liam Broady (GBR)
L32: Jordan Angus (GBR) lost to (10) Kimmer Coppejans (BEL) by 3 & 3 L32: (5) Kyle Edmund (GBR) lost to Lai Kai-Wen (TPE) by 4-3 ret. (chest infection) L32: Evan Hoyt (GBR) lost to (6) Julien Cagnina (BEL) by 3 & 3 L32: (2) Liam Broady (GBR) beat Bernardo Casares (BRA) by 1 & 5
So it's Broady or bust then - Liam's next opponent is one of two lowly-ranked Latvian twin brothers who both qualified here. Janis upset 15th seed Vinti in R2, while brother Martins took out 4th seed Krueger in the biggest shock of the day.
L16: (2) Liam Broady (GBR) v (Q) Janis Podzus (LAT)
