RE: Week 45- ATP 1000- Paris (Hard)

Andy looks to be cruising thru this - he's 6-2 4-1 up on Roddick (in only 50 mins so far)

Andy in imperious form by the looks of it:  he takes the match by 2 & 2 in just over an hour. smile  Berdych or Tipsy in the QF (Tipsy about to serve for the first set at 5-4).

Anyone fancy Roast Duck for lunch? biggrin

Amusing rant from Roddick to the umpire in that match. He smashed his racquet very comprehensively, Mo Lahyani gave him the obligatory warning, but was a bit slow about giving the warning. Roddick went on the rampage about that, but for heaven's sake, what did it matter WHEN he said it - the warning was obviously warranted!

Never a dull moment with Roddick. Well, not when he is being beaten and goes on a strop.

Feel sorry for ARod at the moment given the sudden death of his agent, but that aside a great win for Andy.

And Berd-brain (who, along with JWT & the Mardy One, is the final qualifier for the end-of-season bun fight at the O2 ) in the QF.  That could be interesting...

Well done Andy, by all accounts a really good win  smile

I always look at matches with Roddick slightly wistfully in that I kind of feel Muzza should own matches against Roddick with how Roddick's game just so suits him, and so often he does come out on top.

Yet the Wimbledon 2009 semi was the one that got away, which was not only his best chance so far of reaching a Wimbledon final, but with Roger I felt not at the top of his game, and for all that folk talk about Andy on hard courts, maybe the real Slam that got away.

I didn't know about that - yes, it maybe did affect him a bit. Apparently it happened about a month ago, though, and it's not as if he has been losing every match since then - I just think Andy M has pretty much got Andy R's number.

Berdbrain will be tougher. He leads Andy in the H2H 2-1, but the last match was that quite close one at RG on clay before Andy learned how to deal with the devil dirt.

On the assumption that Andy gets the better of Berd-brain, the road to the title has just got a whole lot easier:  the shoulder injury's forced Djoko to withdraw, so JWT becomes the first semi-finalist! disbelief wink

Found Mark Petchey SO irritating on Sky.  He just assumed Berdych would collapse after losing the first set.  Talk about tempting fate!

Only Andy didn't get past Berdbrain. 6-4 6-7(5) 4-6
One helluva a match, a real Murraycoaster, lasting well over three hours. So Berdy remains a thorn in Andy's side. Anybody know if he is in Andy's group in London?

Pity, and certainly keeps Fed well in the running to deny Andy his aim of being end of season world no 3.

If Fed was to lose his QF to Monaco, Andy would be guaranteed finsihing the year no 3.

However, if say Fed was to win the title here and the title unbeaten at WTF the O2, Andy would have to be the losing finalist, having not lost more than one group match.

The full WTF groups can't have been chosen yet, because all the positions going in haven't been decided yet, though actually just one position,  6th or 7th between Berdych and Tsonga, now remains unresolved.  Tsonga will have to go one stage further here than Berdych to overtake him.

At the moment for draw purposes, we have  :  1 & 2 :  Djokovic and Nadal,  3 & 4 : Murray & Federer,  5 & 6 :  Ferrer & Berdych,  7 & 8 :  Tsonga & Fish

More evidence, sadly, that when a big hiiter is on their 'A' game, AM's predominantly counterpunch game isn't quite good enough. Still though not losing the faith.
