Girls: 18th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup, Malaysia - Grade 3 (Week 42)

Pippa Horn looking to continue her improved form will be relieved to see the dominant Swiss second seed Karin Kennel in the opposite half of the draw. Lana Rush has to face 13 year old Sara Tomic (sister of Bernard), who is already showing a lot of promise. Katie Boulter's opponent also looks pretty useful.

R1 (L32)

Chiara Frapolli (SUI) v (5) Beth Askew (GBR)

Pippa Horn (GBR) v Danielle Spielmann (SUI)

(5) Ilze Hattingh (RSA) v Freya Christie (GBR)

Lana Rush (GBR) v Sara Tomic (AUS)

(7) Katie Boulter (GBR) v Ya-Hsuan Lee (TPE)

Lana wasn't fazed by playing someone younger than her for a change, and 4 wins is a good return

Katie just tweeted that all 4 girls are into the quarters. Pretty impressive day.

Lana's first top 200 win, though I suspect that Kalva like many Indians is overranked, garnering points in weak home tournaments. She earns a second crack at last week's nemesis. Katie draws the short straw.

Katie put in a sterling performance to test her doubles partner more than anyone else has done in Malaysia, Yesterday Beth and Pippa retired from their doubles, and that problem sadly appears to have carried on for Beth, who retired from her singles, leaving Pippa to fly the flag again

Pippa Horn (GBR) d. Parminder Kaur (IND) 6-4 6-3

Pippa battled her way to a fine victory over the top seed and a second crack at the Swiss girl, who had a considerably easier passage winning by default after taking the first 5 games. Kennel is on a 21 match winning streak.

Pippa Horn (GBR) d. (1) Altila Sutjiadi (INA) 5-7 7-5 6-4

F

Pippa Horn (GBR) v (2) Karin Kennel (SUI)

Doubles Final

(2) Buayam/Sutjiadi (THA/INA) d. (3) Kennel/Boulter (SUI/GBR) 6-3 6-2

Shame the Swiss miss' streak doesn't extend to doubles.

Finally the streak comes to an end, and Pippa reaps the reward for coming back from a set and 0-5 (saving 2 matchpoints) against the top seed smile

Pippa Horn (GBR) d. (2) Karin Kennel (SUI) 6-4 6-2

Tremendous stuff and what a recovery that was in the semi final  smile

I was getting really quite excited by Pippa's prospecs last year before she got injured again, and I have been a bit disappointed by her results since she came back, but it all looks to be coming together again.   I really hope so anyway, and that she has again become someone to really watch for.

Pippa. :)

Got to agree with indiana. Pippa was looking a great prospect after her under 18 national win and a few junior event wins but then the dreaded injuries came. Hopefully she is back now and can move on
