Just Katy avoiding the banana skin of underranked locals (unlike the top seed Ellen Allgurin). She plays one of the lower seeds next, who has had a mixed year, but did beat Eleanor Dean in the summer. Katy teams up in doubles with Australian Brooke Rischbieth, who was part of the team which won the Junior Fed Cup, and is particularly strong in doubles, winning 5 titles this year.

Excellent win, and hopefully a watershed moment in her career with her first top 50 win. Looks like she'll need a stepladder for tomorrow's handshake - the Pole really towers above her coach. Mind you she's not the first Polish female six-footer. I remember Magdalena Grzybowska in the late 1990s was almost as tall.
The Pole beat Eleanor earlier in the year, and Katy was unable to stop her either - but a very good week nevertheless. Will need more points this year to stay in the top 100 though.
