An eighth Masters Series title in would put Andy up to joint 12th in all time list of most Masters Series / Championship Series titles. He would be alongside Wilander, Edberg and Muster.
Impressive. His record in Masters finals is astonishing.
Andy's record in Masters Series finals (8-1) and the fact that he is now level with Wilander, Edberg and to a lesser degree Muster is a great response to use against the know nothings who insist on labeling him a loser.
On another point I am always annoyed by Sky's continual bleating on about Masters Series records but only going back to 1990. The Masters Series was a clear replacement of the Championship Series and so in terms of records the two should be considered one and the same.
On a related 'records' topic - is this the longest unbeaten ATP run by a British player?
If true, another useful stat to repeat back at the press when they don't quite appreciate AM is somewhat more achieving than Tim and Greg were (though I love them to bits).
I find it remarkable that this time last year Andy was ahead of Djokovic in Masters titles and Djokovic hadn't won a title all year. It shows what am incredible step up he made this year and I wonder what the difference would have been if Andy had won in Australia.
