An eighth Masters Series title in would put Andy up to joint 12th in all time list of most Masters Series / Championship Series titles. He would be alongside Wilander, Edberg and Muster.
Strange match. Andy played a fantastic and aggressive first game, was then sloppy to get broken back and since then has been a bit passive for my liking.
A question for the stats experts - how many times has a male player won 4 titles in 3 weeks? It surely can't have been done often.
That would be desperately hard to work out without access to run queries on the ATP database (so we'd probably need to ask Sharko!), but I imagine it is very rare. Looking at John McEnroe's record in 1984, even he only managed it once that year, winning the New York Masters singles & doubles, taking a week off, then winning Philadelphia singles & doubles.
As far as multiple titles in a short period of time go, in autumn 1981, Ivan Lendl won single titles in 5 consecutive weeks, while earlier in the same year, Jose-Luis Clerc won singles titles in 4 consecutive weeks leading up to the US Open. Lendl also once won tournaments on 3 different surfaces in consecutive weeks!

Impressive. His record in Masters finals is astonishing.
