For completeness, Andy won 6-3 6-2.

Ebden fought very hard in the second half of the second set, and seems to have a good and skilful all court game without having a major weapon.

Efficient job by Andy overall.  Great week for Ebdon who will now rise over 40 places in the rankings to about WR 80.  Understandably just didn't have the consistent quality after I thought a really impressive first few games.

Feliciano Lopex (ESP) WR 28  vs  (3) David Ferrer (ESP) WR 5  -   not before 9.30 am BST

Kei Nishikori (JPN) WR 47  vs  (2) Andy Murray (GBR) WR 4  -  not before 1 pm BST

 

Andy's match is the evening match at NB 1 pm BST ( 8 pm Shanghai time ) and follows Ferrer's match on the schedule so should be on time OK.

During today's match Barry Cowan said that Andy might well end up playing either Valencia or Basel. The former seems more likely to offer him a wild card and/or an appearance fee as Basel already has a strong line up including Djokovic and Federer.
