Play cancelled for the day, to make it fairer they should only play the bottom half R16 tomorrow, and then play all quarters on Friday, semis on Saturday etc.,. but will they ??

Looks like they need an extra week.

Going into next week causes problems for those expected to play Davis Cup matches on Friday.

I'd very much doubt it.  If the weather allows, I'd expect Thursday to be bottom half L16 and top half QFs, Friday bottom half QFs and then Saturday SFs.

I certainly do see the fairness case for holding back the top half QFs, but in particular if the weather is still not guaranteed over the next few days I would anticipate them trying to get as much back on schedule as possible.

But yes, if the bottom half finalist will have played Thursday, Friday, Saturday ( and then Sunday ! ). it would be much more equitable if the top half finalist played Monday, Friday, Saturday rather than the much more comfortable Monday, Thursday, Saturday.

David Law (BBC) says that the forecast is for rain today (but possibly not all day), reasonable weather on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then awful weather for the first three days of next week.

So it could be a choice between 4 matches in 3 days for the bottom half finalist or the finalists not being able to get to their DC ties!

I wonder what would happen if they did decide to play the Final next Monday and then it rained for 3 days solid ...

OK, chaps, let's consult our diaries.  OK, we will reconvene on September the ...smile

I see the top half QFs are scheduled for today, whether will get played another matter.  I am afraid with the weather not definite that was probably a correct decision, they had to try and move the tournament on as much as possible,  Even if the rest of the week had been set absolutely fair I have a feeling the USTA would still have scheduled the top half QFs for today ( and that I would have debated ), but anyway it's not.

From now on they will just be living in hope they can muddle through.  I can't see even the USTA trying to get players playing any more than one singles match in a day nor can I imagine the men's or women's singles being moved indoors for any round, other matches yes possibly and I know junior matches already have been.

Which weather forecast are you looking at ?

This one isn't so hopeful (80% chance of rain at 12.15pm, 100% at 12.30pm, 75% at 2pm, updated 20 mins ago apparently):
