Cincinnati Masters - SF: Andy vs Mardy Fish

The head-to-head is 3-4.  A chance for Andy to avenge defeat by the Mardy One (the current world n° 7) in Cincy in the quarters,  Queen's in the last 16 & Miami in the second round, all last year.  Here's hoping, anyway...

Hmm, a tough one, and I didn't think the Fishman beating Nadal was that much of a surprise.

As I was saying in the general Cincinnati thread he has of late become rather good,  consistently maintaining a level that I would never have expected a couple of years ago.

He's running away at the monent with the US Open Series ( re points won by performances in the American hard court swing ) and I just don't see him giving this one away though possibly all his matches might catch up on him a bit.  He also quite likes this place, having reached the final last year where he lost to Fed in three close sets.  And we have the head to head as indicated by SC.

So after all that, somehow I still have this sneaky feeling that Andy might take him,  indeed I'll take Andy in straight sets  He seems to be working himself steadily into more form,  so hey...

I hope Andy keeps as cool and relaxed as he did today and wins this one. So refreshing to see none of the negative stuff, more please!

I actually think Fish could be a fraction too tough, but it should be an epic whatever the result.
Andy needs to improve on what he has shown so far and with the hot conditions there in Cincy favouring Fish he might just shade it.

Probably not quite the correct forum to post this, but what the hell!  Another one bites the dust:  Rog has just succumbed to Berd-brain by 2-6 6-7(3)! disbelief  Andy the highest seed through to the semis - so far... wink

Last year when Andy lost at Cincy he gave a very cold handshake which suggests to me that Fish is someone he really will want revenge on. I cant wait for this one.

Andys H2H with Fish reads 4-3 to the AMerican, including the last 3 meetings (all last year)

H2h on Hard is 3-2 Fish. (Last 2 to Fish)

AM broke for 3-1 at the 5th time of asking, then saved a breakback point and missed the chance of a double break. Fish got 2 chances to break back at 5-3, the first saved with an outrageous netcord dropshot, but AM held

6-3 0-0*

Fish anything but chipper as he plays a poor game to offer Andy 3 breakpoints, and concedes the third

6-3 1*-0
