Half Term Report: Which was the better year 2011 or 2010?

Half term report again.

I did this thread last year and the conclusion came that 2009 half-term was better than 2010 half-term. See: http://britishtennis.activeboard.com/t36933404/2009-or-2010what-was-the-better-year-for-gb-tennis-compare-u/

So the question is have we had a better 2011 1st half then we did in 2010?

At the end of Week 26 the Top 16 Point earners of the class of 11 were 1208 points ahead of the 10 class (113 ahead excluding Andy Murrays points)

To begin with Andy Murray has reached an Australian Open F, Roland Garros & Wimbledon SF. Reached SFs in Monte Carlo & Rome and won Queens but did have a 4 match losing streak without winning a set.

The highlights of the others are headed by James Wards SF run at Queens Club. Jamie Baker broke his challenger 2nd round duck. While future success has came from Boggo, Phillips and Eaton each chipping in with one title each. Weve also had a number of Future finalists, headed by Evo (3), Rice (2), Milton (2), Boggo (1), Cox (1), Smethurst (1), Eaton (1).

There has also been the excitement of junior talent coming through with particular highlight to Wimbledon juniors finalist Liam Broady who is the highest ranked 1994 year old in the ATP rankings.

So the question is has 2011 been a better year than 2010? Also has it lived up to your expectations of what you wanted to see? Or are we still lacking behind or is this a beginning of an upward trend?

I'd certainly say better this year, without going further into all the figures and performances than you have mentioned and these things that I had already noticed.

Re the top 6 guys  I counted in the predictions competition thread ( latest post Wimbledon standings can be seen  here by the way : http://britishtennis.activeboard.com/t39988505/2011-gb-men-and-women-singles-predictions-competition/?page=4 )

that the 6 guys were a cumulative 128 places ( and that includes Boggo dropping 111 places ) ahead of their year start positions ( when we maybe wouldn't have perceived much progress ) with the women by the way 87 places ahead ( ignoring Naomi Cavaday ) in what has been a good last month or two for them affter earlier season doubts about them.

When you mention such as Liam as well, I'd definitely say the first half has been better than last year's first half.

Is it an upward trend ?  Not convinced.  I need to see more and need to see it lasting longer.  And it most certainly represents baby steps in relation to how far we are behind others and behind where I and I guess most others would love to see us.

The same, in my opinion. Looks to be a little better on face value, but in tennis, except at the very top , staying constant is actually going behind since time is always running out.

Take out Wardy's Queens run, Liam's significant progress and Andy's improved slam performances I would say still alot of work to do with too many players still not achieving their potential, but overall I have to agree a little bit better than last year.
