The draw here is mainly filled by Brits, and unfortunately has thrown up two big clashes in round 1 for key members of the successful under 16 European Winter Cup winning squad. Chris Pearce tackles top seed Clay Crawford, whilst Jonny O'Mara faces second seed Peter Ashley.
Half the first round was played today and Chris Pearce comfortably upset top seed Clay Crawford 6-2 6-2. Other seeds to lose were Jordan Angus beaten by Callum Poland-Smith, and Aaron Banasik Banasik who lost to James Elliott. Jonny/Peter play tomorrow
Chris Pearce v Scott Clayton Ben Lott v (7) Calvin Hemery (FRA) (3) Myles Orton v Johan Sebastien Tatlot (FRA) Carlos Benito Hergueta (ESP) v (6) Tommy Bennett (8) Billy Harris v (Q) Fabio Mercuri (ITA) Baptste Daubigney (FRA) v Callum Poland-Smith James Elliott v Lewis Thompson (SE) Nihar Navapurkar v Jonny O'Mara
Most odd - according to the ITF Jonny lost 6-3 6-2 but Jonny himself has tweeted a 6-2 6-3 win - I'll take Jonny's word for it (and hope the ITF have got the other scores the right way round )

Jonny certainly seems on a roll. That's 9 pretty convincing looking wins in a row ( some extremely convincing ) from last week in Denmark and this week.
back to back ITFs for jonny!!! tough match today, scott played really well and served big, jonny feeling it a bit after 3 weeks of lots of matches-started off a bit heavy and looking tired and a bit grumpy!-scott right out of the traps using his weapons well and took the first set. But just as youd like to see in a young player, the fighting spirit overcame the wearyness and he fought back, took the second and continued the form into the third playing much better tennis. Tired but nothing a good couple of sleeps and some pasta carbonara cant sort-on to Newcastle next week-vamos
