Luke was the finalist at the Australian Open and though he doesn't serve as fast as Kern (fastest speed 120 mph today) he gets a fair number of aces (11 today and 14 yesterday - neither match particularly long)
So chuffed for Liam, got to chat to him on several occasions at Notts, and he was even kind enough to sign me in as a guest for the two weeks. Watching him live his forehand leaves you with an even bigger impression ( he generates such a huge whip in the impact zone ). However what impresses me most about Liam is that he has a great head on those shoulders. Grounded and very bright, with a great knowledge of the game.
Liam was born 4th Jan 1994. What will be the last Slam he can enter as a junior?
US Open 2012. It goes by year of birth and Liam just slips in as a 1994 born so can play all junior events in 2012. Though I would imagine Slams would be just about all he might be interested in next year.
He also questioned Broady, a highly rated 17-year-old from Stockport. 'I played doubles with him and wanted to see more intensity. I compare it to how desperately I wanted to succeed. There was a Czech kid playing there (Australian Open winner Jiri Vesely). He's OK but when you looked at his mentality, you could see in his eyes he would do anything to win.'
I didn't like that comment the first time I saw it. So who has just beaten Jiri Vesely twice in a row, then? I see no lack of intensity in Liam. Probably he just couldn't get enthused about a "hit-and-giggle" match.
Yes, I had totally forgotten about that nonsense from Henman, looked into his eyes BS at an event where rather a few of the seniors were evidently not setting the greatest example of total focus.
Liam's mentality has been something that I and others have specifically commented very favourably about in this thread, although from other accounts this is nothing new.
It certainly comes across that when it matters he most certainly is a very determined and focussed young man.
Would be quite interesting to hear Henman's comments on Liam's displays here.

LOL thanks for digging up that one. Oh, Timothy ...
