"Huge roar from Court 19 as Britain's Liam Broady knocks out top seed Jiri Vesely in straight sets in Wimbledon juniors" (Pearcesport on Twitter)
Odd that they didn't put this on a bigger court - apart from the autograph chasers at Aorangi (I've never really understood these people who spend more time on the practice courts than watching actual play, but there you go!), I'd have thought most people in the grounds would have headed for this match.
So that's the world no. 1 taken out 2 weeks in a row, 9 wins in a row for Liam and 14 of his last 15 junior matches won
His next opponent, world junior no. 36 Robin Kern from Germany (CH 28 earlier this month) may only be a qualifier, but he beat 9th seed Whittington in straight sets earlier this week and thrashed 5th seed Horansky 3&1 today!

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Liam has 2 major weapons, a heavily whipped lefty forehand and great movement around the court. Added to that he has a very good serve and for his age shows great composure on the court. However the most pleasing part for his future development, is that he has so much he can work on to improve and being a bright lad, very knowledgible about the game, he is likely to learn very quickly and make the transition into the seniors a smoother process than it has been for our past juniors exc. Andy of course.
not getting too far ahead, but for liam to take the number one ranking, he definetly has to win the whole thing, and outperform vesely in the dubs
Agree to overtake Vesely, Liam needs to win the singles, but I make it that if he reaches the QFs in doubles, he just has to match Vesely ( & Oli ).
Got too much time on my hands, but anyway :
Points if Liam won the singles title plus what his doubles points would be taking out his doubles title last year, and for Vesely his current points ( he has matched his Wimbledon singles L16 from last year and his doubles last year is a non counter ) :
Broady : 1010 + ( 465 / 4 ) = 1126.25
Vesely : 870 + ( 1040 / 4 ) = 1130
But, where Broady can edge ahead is based on what their current 6th ( and last ) doubles score would be ( 30 for Broady, 50 for Vesely )
Knocked out in doubles in L32 or L16, no change to above, Vesely slightly ahead.
But QF points are 50 so if they are both knocked out in the QF, Liam adds ( 20 / 4 = 5 ) to take him to 1131.25, and take him ahead of Vesely.
If they both reach the SFs, again Broady would be 1.25 points ahead.
If they both reached the doubles final ( with Liam winning the singles ) then whoever won the doubles final would be ahead.
I think ( without fully checking it, do you think I've all day ) that if Liam won the singles, noone other than Vesely could prevent him going to JWR 1.
Edit : actually there is someone else, see my next post.

Ah, I found more hours in the day and we have another contendor for JWR 1 even if Liam wins the singles.
Thiago Monteiro ( WR 3 and no 2 singles seed ) has no counters to drop from Wimbledon singles or doubles last year, and is still in the singles ( just at L16 stage ) and doubles this year.
If he were to be runner-up to Liam in the singles ( and he is in the opposite half ) and won the doubles, then his score would be :
960 + ( 715 / 4 ) = 1138.75
Liam would be unable to match that, because he is in the same quarter of the doubles so by definition would be knocked out at the QF stage and thus be on a maximum of 1131.25 points.
Not sure what he's like on grass. He didn't appear to play Wimbledon last year, but did reach the QF singles and SF doubles at Roehampton last week.
Great win but far too early to look ahead to the final. His next opponent may well turn out to be a bigger threat than Vesely on grass. Robin Kern clearly has a big serve, and is yet to be broken in the tournament. He won 100% of points behind first serve against Whittington and served 12 aces in 8 games today.
Just thought i'd give my view of what i saw yesterday.
I manages to watch a lot of Boadys match, some of Kyle's a little of Evan but none of George and Ollies.
I was very impressed by Liam, should have won this in tow really but hit some bad errors in the breaker (one of which drew the comment "merry christmas" from Liam which i found amusing) and his opponent served very well. He seemed well in control of his game. Great serve and really uses his left handedness well. Seems to construct the point well but when theres a space he'll go for it. My one concern is that Liam looks to be what 5'9 or 5'10? To make it big in the mens game today you kind of need to be over 6 foot but Liam may yet show that to be a pile of crap. Or he may yet grow a few more inches.
I was very impressed by Edmund. Big serve and big forehand. Looks the part already.
Didn't watch much of Evan but later i found out he's welsh or lives in wales so i'll follow him closer next time.
Thanks for your report. Evan had a nice consolation after his loss yesterday
