Actually, some of the men's doubles players seem to be the people who have been worst done by in the rain/scheduling. Petzchner/Melzer (or their opponents) have to play two matches tomorrow (as well as mixed doubles, I think). And almost all the players from the top half will (unless I've got it wrong) be doing 3rd round tomorrow, QF the day after, SF the day after, and finals on Saturday. Not great -- and a really nasty situation for the defending champions. I wouldn't want to have 2,000 points on the line and be facing that schedule with best of fives.
On the more positive side, seeing Fleming and Hutchins do so well has been a highlight of the tournament.
Beautiful. When was the last time there were GB players in the doubles quarterfinals?
1993, according to this morning's edition of Metro, which, to my great surprise, actually reported the result! Confirmed in the "Brit watch" section on the tournament site:
Jubilation for Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins as they became the first British pair since Chris Wilkinson and Paul Hand in 1993 to reach the men's doubles quarter-finals at Wimbledon.
I remember Chris Wilkinson, but not Paul Hand. Wonder what he's doing now...
Meanwhile Col & Ross again go an early break down in the second: 2-3*. I'm beginning to fear that they may have met their match in the Austro-German combo...
And the second set goes the same way as the first: 4-6. Colin & Ross just don't seem the same players as they were yesterday - or maybe Kas & Peya simply aren't allowing them to be. I'm supposed to be working, so I can't watch the match for long enough to say that with any confidence.
