Boys & Girls: Open International Juniors de Beaulieu sur Mer, France - Grade 1 (Week 16)

Our top 94/95s are out in force for the climax on the Riviera, with Kyle Edmund and Luke Bambridge joining Liam and Katy. Appropriately for Easter week Kyle is in a religious section of the draw, with Constantin Christ a possible opponent in round 2, and Gonzalo Lama (who he lost to in Paraguay) the first seed he is scheduled to play.

Boys R1 (L64)

(6) Kyle Edmund (GBR) Bye

(4) Liam Broady (GBR) Bye

Luke Bambridge (GBR) v (WC) Alexandre Massa (FRA)

Girls R1 (L64)

(16) Katy Dunne (GBR) Bye

Just need someone to say to Massa conspiratorially :  "Luke is better than you,  do you understand ?"  and he'll move swiftly aside and Luke can move on   smile

thinking about it , luke might need a big week here to sneak into french open qualies, obviously kyle and luke are well in, and pushing for a seeding

Luke has two chances, this week and next (in Italy) to gain points before the entry deadline. Last year the cut for qualifying was 91, so he's not far off.

Unfortunately it was a tough loss for Luke, against last week's finalist, failing to convert 6 matchpoints (5 in the second and 1 in the third set). As all interest in doubles ended Luke's chances of Roland Garros qualifying haven't been enhanced here.

Liam had a comfortable win, but faces the winner of one of the previous French Grade 2s next. Katy suffered a very disappointing loss.

Boys R2

(6) Kyle Edmund (GBR) d. Constantin Christ (GER) 6-3 7-6(2)
(4) Liam Broady (GBR) d. Vullnet Tashi (SUI) 6-2 6-3
(14) Enzo Couacaud (FRA) d. Luke Bambridge (GBR) 1-6 7-5 7-5

R3

Alexander Ritschard (SUI) v (6) Kyle Edmund (GBR)
Laurent Lokoli (FRA) v (4) Liam Broady (GBR)

Girls R2

(Q) Maeva Razakasoa (FRA) d. (16) Katy Dunne (GBR) 6-3 6-3

Liam progressed to pick up good points, running away with the second set after saving a couple of set points in the first, but Kyle had a bad day

R3

Alexander Ritschard (SUI) d. (6) Kyle Edmund (GBR) 6-1 6-0
(4) Liam Broady (GBR) d. Laurent Lokoli (FRA) 7-6(6) 6-2

QF

(12) Maxim Dubarenco (MLD) v (4) Liam Broady (GBR)

The head coach at the place where Liam trains has just reported that he has reached the semis.

ps. so does that mean they played twice in 1 day then? or did the coach just get ahead of himself?

Checking the schedule, getting ahead of himself seems to be the answer - I can't find an OoP on the site but the plan for the week says QFs today.

A very nice place for a tennis tournament btw - see http://www.itf-beaulieu.com/tournois-tennis-beaulieu-cote-azur-index2.html and http://www.itf-beaulieu.com/tournois-tennis-beaulieu-cote-azur-index2.html
