RE: Week 15 - ATP Masters 1000 - Monte Carlo - Clay

Unforuantely I missed this match but that is a seriously good win. Gill is a good player on clay and I was expecting a really tough match.

Not as good as yesterday but the conditions were tricky.

Hopefully now Andy will look back at his semi with Nadal a couple of years ago, particularly from 2-5 down in the 2nd set and come out tomorrow playing that way from the start.

SF :   (1) Rafael Nadal  WR 1  vs  (3/W) Andy Murray  WR 4

It appears this Nadal chappee is quite good at Monte Carlo.

He was last beaten here as a 16 yo in 2003 by Guillermo Coria in the L16.

He missed 2004.

From 2005 on, he has won all 6 titles, he has won 35 successive matches, he has won 72 sets to 5,  he has won 458 games to 205.

205 games lost over just 7 years, huh !    See not so good   wink

Anyway, good luck, Andy !

I just have a gut feeling that Andy will win today and go on to take the title. What is it with following British Tennis that makes you such an incredible optimist?????

Pass! wink  If he wins, he'll play the fourth seed, David Ferrer, in the final... pray.gif

BBC's live commentary reporting that Andy's suffering an 'arm injury' and is taking a few minutes to practise. It seems that the match will go ahead though. Fingers crossed it won't cause any trouble hmm

Found a live stream on LiveScoreHunter:  commentators (one of them Chris Bailey) said he had felt a very severe pain in his elbow & went to see the doctor (& was presumably given some kind of medication), so he's giving it a go.  Just hope he doesn't do himself a more serious injury by playing... pray.gif  Unfortunately, the stream has just been taken down for "copyright infringement" (I think it was an Arab station). mad.gif

I hope your gut is soon better  - Nadal wins 6-4 2-6 6-1

At 0-3 in 3rd Andy received treatment on his right arm.

The first set was there to be won but Andy couldn't keep his level high enough throughout several of the games. Third set was horribly predictable. 2nd set was an amazing effort. It will be interesting to see how he performs during the rest of the clay court season.

Is three hours for a match of only 25 games a record?   Its certainly unusual.....

Pity how it finished but great that Andy has so much got himself back into gear.

Hopefully his arm problem doesn't prevent him playing in Barcelona and building on this week.

I missed the start of the match and had to dash out just as it finished - should have gone before that really!

After IW and Miami, if anybody had suggested that Andy could get to the semi of Monte Carlo, and go toe-to-toe with Rafa for 2 sets and win one of them on CLAY, I think I might have been looking round for the men in the white coats. . . It's just brilliant to see that he is back playing well and looking like he wants to be there. I hope the elbow problem isn't too serious.

Well done Andy! Next time, maybe. . .
