RE: Week 15 - ATP Masters 1000 - Monte Carlo - Clay

Welcome back, S&V!

Muzz's new psychologist doesn't mince his words:

@MrDavidHaye: "Looking forward to another @andy_murray thrashing today. This time of the ugly frog Gilles Simon. http://m2h2v.tk how to beat a frenchman!"

And I thought I was a bit hard on the GEMs! biggrin (the video is not for the squeamish btw)

I venture to suggest that Andy has steadied the ship, at least in the first set:  5-3*. wink

5 live report suggests Murray is in control of most of the rallies and playing quite well.

Also, Frederico Gil awaits the winner of Murray's game after a surprise win

Sounds like Simon is injured now as well.

Yes, Gillou has turned his ankle quite nastily. On set point, too!

Gillou hobbles back on court, and Andy takes the first set 6-3. I think this might end in retirement, movement is such a big part of Simon's game. He is very heavily strapped.

Well, dammit. Simon goes to all-out aggressive to save running, and breaks Andy in the first game furious.gif

Andy being booed, jeered and whistled at for drop-shotting Simon. What do the crowd expect him to do? Lob the ball gently straight back to him, so that he can lose another game? laughing.gif

Andy isn't very popular with the Monte Carlo crowd is he. Not many tennis players manage to get booed in two consecutive years at the same tournament

Missed the end as I got an important phone call. Well done Andy! Ignore the crowd! In fact, let it make you even more determined to trounce every Frenchman you come across! (and that from somebody who likes Simon)

Booed if you lose (2010), booed if you win (2011) - it seems the Muzzanator can't win with the MC fans. Does he look bothered? Thought not smile.gif

Much much better, Andy just about back to his best level, really pleasing performance.
As for the dropshots, the crowds reaction just resulted in Andy trying to play more of them. Dangerous thing to try and cross a French crowd but Andy I think was revelling in the situation.
