Andy Murrays biggest problem is himself he has the talent and the game to win grand slams but he cant be told even when things go wrong! This has been evident from a young age when he had Petchey as a coach>
Could be a slide down the rankings now but I hope not!

At least he doesn't have many points to defend before Wimbledon, and he got himself back together last year to win two Masters titles.

I blame Seagull for putting Andy down in Week 2 of these tournaments in the entries threads :)

I think it's wrong to assume that Valverdu will be a bad coach without giving him a chance. If only getting top names as coaches meant success, Britain would have 20 players in the top 100! wink.gif

Great result for Boggo, who is a home boy. And I'm loving how well Somdev is doing through sheer hard work and will power - what a legend this fellow is.

Quite so, and anyway I never quite get this "change the coach" panic stations whenever anyone loses a couple of matches.

What does a coach actually do, anyway? I'm guessing they act mainly as a travelling chum - it must be a pretty lonely life on the road. So why would Andy Murray want some ancient dude like Tony Roche (aged 65) to travel around with him, anyway, as opposed to a mate of his who can at least hit balls without needing an oxygen cylinder ...

And of course, Federer hasn't had a coach at all for years.

But there is no particular reason to think he will be a good coach either. He wasn't chosen as the result of an open and rigourous selection process, and he has been with Andy through all these failures. What chance is there that any other top ten player would employ him? Andy needs to forget about making himself comfortable by travelling with a bunch of pals with no track record of producing top level results, and do whatever is necessary to optimise his performances.

It's just frustration really.

When someone is playing consistently or improving, as a spectator you tend not to analyse the reasons why, just enjoy the results.
So when Andy seems to be 'under performing' while saying he's fully fit I tend to look for something or someone to blame.
That's because I'm a fan as opposed to a player, coach or informed expert .

I feel frustrated seeing Andy lose matches I expect him to win so look for a culprit - today it's Danni (almost certainly unfairly ).

I just can't imagine how frustrating it must be for the player who's struggling with their form. Seeing Novak and Andy coming through from juniors together, then
seeing how they compare today does make you question the coaching/training set up.

However just got to remember that only the mediocre are at their best all the time.

Well, they've won the 1st set 7-5. Broke twice and broken once (on Djoko's serve wink)

B****er. They lost 8-10 in the CTB. Neil Harman's tweets sounded like it was a good match. Hey Ho.

Oh well, the good thing about all one's faves being out of tournaments is MORE SLEEP and do I need it !!

Nadal travels with his uncle and he doesn't have a track record of producing Grand Slam winners either, I believe.

I'm not saying that Vallverdu will be a good coach. But I don't think Andy's tennis is at a stage where a full time travelling coach can make a huge difference.

OEM http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/tennis/article2962966.ece  (paywall) and Dicko http://tinyurl.com/47n7mxt  both reporting today that Ivan Lendl wants to start coaching a top player and is hoping it might be Murray.

At first sight, a near-perfect fit, I'd say - Lendl knows what it's like to recover from losing multiple grand slam finals, used to work harder than anyone and won't stand any nonsense - and if Andy is ever going to take on someone like that and respect/listen to them, there aren't many more likely candidates.
