Of the 4 semi-finalists in Australia, Djokovic and Federer did not play this week: both Ferrer and Andy out in the first round. Hmmm. Maybe this tournament was just too soon.
To be fair it was a tough draw , and a result waiting to happen. I think its the fact he lost 13 of the last 15 games which really makes you wonder what was the point. He certainly doesn't fight as hard as he used to for these ATP 500s. Could be Valencia all over again though with the two bros lifting the doubles title.
I have to wonder if there was a little bit of family pressure for him to play here to try to get Jamie in. Then he could hardly pull out of the singles because they didn't (at first) get the wild card. And don't forget - there are penalties for withdrawing from a 500 series if you have entered.
I'm not betting on it. Hasn't Wilander been saying some fairly scathing things about Andy recently? I haven't read them myself but I have seen references to them on various sites.
It would mark a huge (and in some ways potentially encouraging) departure for Muzz to take on someone who's just been quoted in the press as telling him to 'grow up' but I can't see it myself - I've asked GTC if it's another of their Laura AO MD WC 'scoops' (subtle I'm not LOL) and they have said "sources yes just as MD for LR at AO11. Although Barry Cowan was just talking about it too on Sky so no big secret!" - obviously the first bit is no corroboration at all, so I guess it depends on whether Cowan is gullible or has checked it out properly.
