RE: Boys: 2011 Australian Open Juniors - Grade A (Weeks 3-4)

George takes the 2nd set 6-2.

Hope he's not too tired after his exertions yesterday.

A very long 5th game saw Patrombon eventually hold and according to OEM, George looked out on his feet after that, which probably explains why the Filipino won the next two games too. George has just stopped the rot by holding for 5-3* though and now has 2 MPs on Patrombon's serve.

It'll be a Stern test for George tomorrow.  Vesely is yet to lose a set in the tournament.   Good luck!

Could be one step too far the semi, but hes had a solid tournament so far,so no disgrace to go out to the top seed.

Thanks for the welcome.

The LTA's attempt to save face has resulted in even more egg on their faces.
Having injured Isaac by not including him in their preview of British players in the AO.
They insult him further and get his name wrong in the re-write.

It is disgusting that these racist who victimise children are running our sport.

Firstly as a British Tennis fan may I say congratulations for having such a promising youngster.  Hopefully we may be discussing Isaac's progress for a great many years.

I would not pay too much attention to the mispelling of names as I seem to remember Novak Djokovic was frequently spelt incorrectly when he was coming through the ranks, and it has not done him any harm.

On a practical level, the first time a player's name is mentioned in an article on the LTA site, it should be hotlinked to his/her profile.  It would make things much easier and allow people to gain a greater appreciation of the achievements of a particular player.

Lastly I would just like to say that as tempting as rage against the machine is, it can be counter-productive at times.  Sometimes it is simple incompetence that is the cause than any underlying prejudice.  Even though you do not feel it at the moment, the British Tennis public would love to see your lad raise to the top ranks in the game.  All we want to see are W's, everything else is secondary.

I know this is difficult, but try and work with the governing body a bit more. Because the rage can be quite damaging.  It is a bit like going to a shop and complaining about something.  If you go in shouting the odds, it will decrease the chances of getting what you want.  Whereas if you bite your tongue and apply a bit of sugar to the situation, the results are drastically different.

You are dealing with an immense bureaucracy in the LTA.  That means that they will be maddeningly inconsistent, often incompetent and certainly not always right.  Unfortunately they are all we have and to get to the top you have to play the game a little bit.  From the sounds of it, your Isaac has got some fire in his belly.  Keep channeling that to the tennis, rather than any of the extraneous stuff then he will do very well.  Good luck, believe it or not we are behind you.  I hope that the length of this post did not bore you too much!

See you two at SW19,

Kev

"Isaac finished the match and walked off court in floods of tears. There were circa.10 spectators at the time who wittnessed this discriminatory behaviour towards this ten year old boy. As quick as a flash Isaac quipped "Is this how the LTA build character?". "

It's quotes like this one from the website that worry me. The kid is 10 years old, and he's making comments about how badly he's being treated by the LTA.

This gives the impression that he's been taught from a very early age to blame everything bad that happens to him on the establishment, and most likely that it's happening due to his skin colour. Maybe this might have some motivational benefits, I don't really know.

I have no idea whather the LTA are racist or not, but using that excuse every time something negative happens is always going to be counter-productive in the long run. It begs the question whether the discrimination has anything to do with Isaac's skin colour, but instead due to the fact that his parents are disruptive.

Vesely looked very useful when I saw him last year, so I'm not optimistic of further progress either. However players who coast through often struggle if they end up in a battle, so if George can keep it close .....

From the ITF site:
------------------------------------------------------------------
On probably the hottest day of the junior competition to date, Morgan needed all of his battling qualities to fend off a strong rally by Patrombon, who recovered from 40 in the third set to get back to 43.

Morgan, kitted out in a black shirt, was looking tired after going to 108 in his previous match against Mate Delic but held his nerve to clinch victory with a fine forehand pass.

It was my only clean shirt, Morgan said, but I am definitely going to wear white tomorrow.

It was probably one of my worst matches but I thought its probably the best Ive fought this tournament, so its mostly my fight that won me the match. I was obviously getting a bit nervous towards the end and just wanted to make balls. It wasnt the best standard but I was pleased the way I fought. It was a nice shot to finish.

Ive never had two such close matches (back-to-back) and fought through them like that so I am learning quite a lot and improving mentally.

Well done to George on reaching the semis  smile

Got to say though that the shirt thing was not clever.  Attention to detail, mate  hmm.gif   How bad it would been if that had really cost him !

However that doesn't seem to tell the whole story and it was probably closer than that

Looking at the stats George missed 6 BP chances where as his opponent converted on 2 out of 5.
