Well guys it's that time of year again, the first slam of the year and Andy will be hoping to win his maiden slam.
Andy kicks things off against Slovakian Karol Beck. Favourable first round draw and here is his projected draw. Numbers after name represent current World Ranking
R1: Karol Beck 104 R2: Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo 74 or Ilya Marchencko 78 R3: Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 33 Other players: Schwank 89, Berrer 60 or Leo Mayer 94 R4: Melzer 11 or Baghdatis 21 QF: Soderling 4 SF: Nadal 1 F: Federer 2/Djokovic 3
It is not the most exciting of draws with a lot of the big guns gaining favourable projected draws, (Fed vs Roddick, Murray v Sod, Nadal vs Ferrer Quarter finals).
Here is the projected R32
Nadal v. Lopez Isner v. Cilic Youzhny v. Llodra Nalbandian v. Ferrer
Soderling v. Bellucci Gulbis v. Tsonga Melzer v. Baghdatis Garcia-Lopez v. Murray
Berdych v. Gasquet Davydenko v. Verdasco Almagro v. Ljubicic Troicki v. Djokovic
Roddick v. Monaco Wawrinka v. Monfils Fish v. Querrey Montanes v. Federer

Not bad at all really for Andy , in fact looks rather kind, and a draw he could clearly have had even if seeded 4th ( OK, strictly couldn't have got Melzer in the last 16, would have got one of seeds 13 to 16 ).
I believe DelPo is in the Baggy / Melzer section though I have personally some doubts as to how much he will really be ready.
If all the big guns get through I guess in my ideal world, I'd prefer Fed in the semis rather than Rafa, just something about another final with Fed
But could be various twists and turns before then and I suppose I'd really just be very happy if Andy got to the semis and take whatever really from then.
Edit : Sorry I type slow and just end up being the umpteenth person to mention DelPo

I can't cope with middle-of-the-nighters any more, I'll have to set the video: I hope the Beeb don't muck about with the channels as they so often do. And I have to be out tomorrow morning if they are going to show a re-run then.
And now the Beeb are saying they are starting up at 04.10 am. . .
The time sounds more realistic as Andy is third up after a men's match and a ladies'. (have I used those apostrophes correctly? I used to be good at them but not now. . .)

Oh no, he doesn't: "Big Ivo" lost to the Croat, Ivan Dodig, in five earlier today (4-6 6-3 7-6(5) 4-6 4-6! ). Fed, on the other hand, will play Simon in Round 2 after winning in four sets.
