Andy's Programme for 2011

According to two separate twitter sources, Andy is going to play in Basel next week. If true, it certainly isn't to chase cheap points: both Federer and Djokovic are playing there, Valencia is much easier-looking.

It's reported in the Swiss newspaper, Blick, as well.

Don't like it, rather he was fresh for the O2.

At first sight, I'm inclined to agree with Phil, though as we've seen with Novak, you don't necessarily get that tired if you are on a roll. If he isn't going there to chase cheap points, it makes you think it must be expensive guarantees instead, yet I can't see Basel offering top dollar for anyone once they've got their local hero involved, even if they are happy to offer Nole & Andy WCs too, all of which suggests Muzz must have good tennis-related reasons for going there - perhaps the courts play like those in Paris and/or London.

I think one of the main reasons Andy has been so strong during this last period is due to the fact he is relatively fresh compared to the other top guys, if he does play well here and in Paris, the likes of Novak and Fed who haven't played much tennis will have an advantage come the O2.
Andy has got his scheduling spot on over the last couple of years to peak at the Slams, so I'm not going to be too critical, I just think though that Andy plays his best tennis when relatively fresh.

He's had 2 weeks off, I'm sure he won't be that tired!

Yes but then 3 tournaments in 4 weeks with the one he is attempting to peak for, the last one.

Hmm, I'd rather he'd played Valencia for this reason - we'll know in a month whether it was a bad move.

After being horrified at him choosing to play 3 weeks in a row (one of them including doubles) in the Asian Swing, I'm keeping my mouth firmly tape.gif on this decision!

I think he does better in a run  - after he's had a longish break and comes in cold, as it were, it seems to me he often does badly in the first tournament.
