U14 Round 4: (1) Joshua Sapwell d. Javier Restrepo 6-4; 6-2
U14 QF: (1) Sapwell v Rubin
Josh's opponent in the QF has dropped just 11 games in 4 matches and bagelled the number 5 seed in his last match. He beat Josh in 3 tight sets at Les Petits As in January.
Peter's fine American run comes to an end in the battle of two very in-form players
Under 14 R4
(1) Joshua Sapwell (GBR) d. Javier Restrepo (USA) 6-4 6-2 Alexandr Chepelev (RUS) d. Alex Sendegeya (GBR) 4-6 6-4 6-2 Borna Coric (CRO) d. (3) Peter Ashley (GBR) 7-5 6-4
Sapwell and Coric played in a TE14 event earlier in the year with Josh coming through 6-4 in the third. Very impressive scoreline against Garin, who was a key member of the Chile team which won the World Juniors during the summer.
Well, something's going right with tennis in Britain. One good performance -- or even two -- could be a fluke. But to have the Eddie Herr 14s champion, Orange Bowl 18s champion, and Junior Orange Bowl 14s (at least) finalist (and the Junior Davis Cup runners up in 2009 and fourth place team in 2010) is pretty good going . . . especially given that a lot of different players are involved.
The much maligned LTA have been able to produce a much stronger group of juniors than in previous years. Now got to turn them into a strong group of seniors.
