RE: Week 42 - Futures F16 ($15K) - Glasgow, UK - Indoor Hard

Brill week for Evo then and... 3rd title in a row for the pair, very impressive! Would not have put money on these two winning futures dubs titles together if asked before this run.

It should take them to about 480 (Dan) and 620 (Lewis) in the doubles rankings.

Well done Evans!

On a complete and utter side note (well, really a note on the very extremities of the thread), I was clearing some stuff from my computer the other day and decided to get rid of a whole bunch of tennis photos. Whilst erasing some images from the Nottingham Challenger 2010 I noticed a particular few of a British tour match (which was going on at the same time) in which one of the players was sporting big blonde dreadlocks. I swiftly deleted the photos. However I then thought on, who on earth was that guy? He's quite a distinctive figure (tall, white with Dustin Brown style dreadlocks, albeit blonde), anyone seen him before..? Know his name?

Sorry about the lack of photos, my interest only seemed to spike after the obliteration of many more images.

A long lost triplet maybe.  Imagine one of the albino hitmen with their hair pinned up and falling down onto the back of their neck.. and you've pretty much got an image of the guy in question.

That is Patrick Ogier, the Guernsey player who played in the Commenwealth Games. I remember him sitting nearby me watching Bogdanovic against Ram.

Yes, seem to remember also spotting him wandering the grounds watching various matches - you can't fail to spot him really!  Thanks for the information Wolf.  smile

only saw it from 2-6, 4-2

I scribbled some pencil marks into the margin of my newspaper - here's the story as best I can decipher it.

evo held despite couple of deuces to 5-2,
couple of easy ish holds followed for Evo to take 2nd set 6-3

after toilet breaks

3rd set evo first :
evo took 4th bp for a   1-0 lead
but broken to 15 for    1-1
ebden held from 0-30 despite two df   1-2
evo broken to 30, df and nasty volley into net  1-3
ebden holds to 15 finishng with ace 1-4
evo holds to 30 despite df 2-4
ebden holds to 15   2-5
evo holds  3-5

ebden serving for match his scores first now
0-15
evo missed service return 15-15
evo bh wide 30-15
evo error 40-15
great defence from evo looked out of it twice 40-30
bad error from ebden deuce
bh into net from evo A-40
fh wide from evo - gsm to ebden

Ebden looked like a class above - but playing a bit within himself - evo hit some very nice shots but seemed to be nearer his limits.

Yes Milo. I thought Ebden was made to fight but in the end had a little too much for Dan. Evo played very well though, especially in the second set. He was good coming into the net and almost matched Ebden's strokeplay. Just one or two unforced errors too many. Especilly with the drop shot. Oh my, the drop shot!!

The question I suppose is if Dan is ready to progress to challenger level events again. I think he is. He has only defended his points from losing last October's final against Yannick Mertans here. Hopefully he will move up the rankings enough to get a sustained run at challengers before long. He played much better today than in that final last year when he got bagled. He is one of the fittest and more agile players. He would not be if he had done anything like as much partying as is joked about! He seems to be maturing very well in fact.

All in all a decent week for Dan and his third final in the last two months. Hopefully he can have another good week in Cardiff and he should be in line for a wild card at Loughborough. He only has 22 more points to defend this year so hopefully he can push himself back towards the top 300.
