RE: Week 42 - Futures F16 ($15K) - Glasgow, UK - Indoor Hard

It was a ding dong encounter between Evans and Milton. Milts led by a break in the first set at 4-3 only to lose the next 3 games. He mounted a comeback after being behind in the second only for Evo to step up his game to win the match. Only a few points in it with Dan playing the big points better.

His next opponent, Viola, came back from the dead against the gutsy little Fabbiano. He looked all at sea in the first set and I suspected he was not at home on the faster courts. He clung on in thanks to his powerful serve and his opponent must have run out of steam as he was almost bagled in the deciding set. One smashed racket and a warning from the lady umpire. Dan will have to tackle Viola's serve if he is to win tomorrow. Viola seems a slow starter so he needs to be quick out of the trap. We should know from past experience that anything could happen with Dan. A good win or a trip to the Bagel factory!

Ebden won a high quality match against Mecir. He has a far greater range of shots than anyone else here. Difficult to see him not winning.

In the Doubles

SF:  (3) Matthew Ebden (AUS) & Josh Milton WR 1187 defeated (1) James Cluskey & Miloslav Mecir (IRL/SVK) WR 732    6-3, 3-6, [10-7]
SF:  (4)Lewis Burton & Dan Evans WR 1356 defeated (2) Josh Goodall & Timo Nieminen (FIN) WR 734    6-1, 7-5

Could this be three titles in a row for Burton and Evans?

The organisors have given Dan another 10:00 start.

Don't they realise that he needs a little time time to sober up wink

Yes, I think Steven was saying we could just do with another couple of players turning to be doubles specialists so he could get his Top Double Players table going   wink.gif

Excellant. Assuming that he plays Ebdon it will be a tough ask to win the final but if he can find his best form he will be in with a shout.

Burton definitely has the game for doubles having watched both his singles match and dubs matches at junior wimbledon, but i definitely wouldnt want him to become a dubs specialist as his groundstrokes are too good.
When i saw him at wimby he was very tall compared to other juniors and has prob one of the biggest serves for his age, he seemed to back that up with some very good volleys which juniors dont tend to possess these days as well.

yeh no i definitely think Burton should have a crack at singles for a few years at least, his serve is pretty nippy

Yeah I agree. I was really impressed when I watched him in Junior Wimbledon, even though he lost his match to one of the guys that Golding beat. He had an aggressive game and a good attitude (you could tell he really wanted to win at all costs). But unfortunately his junior results and subsequently his senior results havent been great. However his doubles success will hopefully give him plenty of confidence, and who knows maybe he and Evans can become the new Nestor and Knowles etc

Dan and Lewis claimed the doubles title winning 7-6(1) 3-6 [10-6]

In the singles Dan came from behind to win 4-6 6-3 6-1
