So it's Stan the Man in R3, and the first possible real test of Andy's campaign.
H - H is 5 - 3 to Andy with Stan's victories being the two times they played on clay in 2005 and 2008 and on hard court in Miami back in 2006. Andy has won the last 3 and 5 of the last 6. The last 2 were a 3 set demolition in in the US Open L16 in 2008 when Andy played really well and their 5 set meeting under the roof at Wimbledon L16 last year which was a bit too close for comfort.
While I expect Andy to win and Stan's recent form is not great, this is certainly not a match to be taken lightly. Stan was WR 9 as recently as June 2008 and when someone has been of that quality there is always a chance they could get back to that level even intermittently. Again, as said just last year he took Andy to 5 sets at Wimbledon. I expect US Open open air to much more to Andy's liking than Wimbledon under roof, which most folk considered slowed the game down, but it still should not be forgotten.
But, ultimately a match I have to see Andy winning, just as long as he is playing to a much more decent energy level than he displayed in his R2 post match press conference
