RE: Girls: US Open Juniors - Grade A (Week 36)

Anderson has done well through out the tourny. But still a disappointing result.

Laura certainly seems to have taken a distaste to windy conditions. Her biggest weapon wasn't firing today, and it was only in the Americans last two service games where she had 4 bps did she make progress there.
All week Laura has been saying that this tournament is not the main target, instead her last three senior tournaments are more important. With the field this week being the strongest for a junior slam since I have followed tennis, without complete focus she was never going to win this week.
Mark Petchey tweeted that she just made too many unforced errors.

Laura is just not as good as the hype, regardless of any excuse people make for her. This years results have reflected that. I see Top 100 at best for her

Thank you for your comment.  Noted amongst the others that come up every six months or so after Laura's occasional bad days    disbelief.gif

I'm not into hype generally, but she I reckon is the real deal. Sorry but anyone that really follows Laura's progress I would have thought would consider Laura at her best ( and the best in a 16 yo is of much more interest to me than the worst ) shows real promise of having a very good future career as a senior.

If she doesn't reach the top 50 at least, I will eat my hat.  Note to self :  buy a hat just in case  hmm.gif    Beyond that we shall see, but I certainly see the potential for far more than that and am not put off these thoughts by this disappointment.

Record this year in senior tournaments against senior top 200 players :  won 8, lost 6.  What exactly is the selection of "this year's results" that you are looking at ?

I think most observers who have followed Laura's career closely would predict her senior ranking to finish in the 10 - 50 range. Unless she develops a bad injury or suffers a severe dip in form anything worse seems highly unlikely.( I think Indy's hat is safe )

There will be some people who after her success at junior Wimby thought she was guaranteed to become a grand slam champion and top 3 player. However her speed around the court will make it more difficult to reach the top of the game. Seles wasn't a great athlete but she managed it, so anything is possible.

Young players develop at a different rate and so it impossible to predict how well a player is going to do at senior level following a junior slam win. Take MLDB who was way ahead of Laura at one stage but now is only ranked at about 170 and is one year older.

Whoah, whoah, hold on a second.
How on earth, Indy, do you not have a hat. I mean, you're Indiana Jones for petes sake. You have gone down in my estimations. Some archaeologist you are. pfft.no

GTC London based Academy Gosling Tennis Academy and IHPC have had a winner at the US Open as Hungarian Timea Babos and partner Sloane Stephens win yet another grand slam girls doubles title for their third in a row!!
Timi actually reached all the girls doubles grand slam finals in 2010, a great effort! Well done Gosling!!

Great achievment by Timea and Sloane, who are two of the stand-out 1993s to watch for. Shame that An-Sophie's injury meant they got their third title on a w/o
