RE: Week 35 - US Open men's main draw

Mark Petchey just said on Sky Sports that he was expecting Andy's match to be on Wednesday. Means I'll probably miss it too then unless it's not one of the first ones.

There is chance that there could be some seriously bad weather in New York by the end of the week. Hurricane Earl is currently in the Carribean but is expected to move North over the next few days and while not expected to make landfall on the US it could be within 200 miles or so of New York by Friday.

I just had a look at the US Open page on the ATP site and noticed something that amused me.

http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Tournaments/US-Open.aspx

Under the "Who is playing" header it shows 8 players. Seeds 1-7 are listed but stragely the number 8 seed (Vedasco) is not listed and instead we get the number 9 seed (Roddick).

No doubt it is just a minor oversight.

A big first round shock is on the cards.

Despite having a two set lead Soderling has been taken to a fifth set by Andreas Haider-Maurer

7-5, 6-3, 6-7, 5-7

Soderling has made a quite ridiculous 68 unforced errors.

Soderling pulls through 6-4 in the fifth. I am sure that a near 4 hour match wasn't what he had in mind for today.

Andy is not on Tuesday's schedule, which should mean it's a Wednesday daytime first round assignment.

When it will be nice, sticky and hot, just as Andy likes it NOT.
Cooling down from Friday though until the end of the tournament.

Oddly enought this was a tweet from Andy only a few hours ago

"Loving the heat in new york! Perfect weather to see who's put in the work"

Yes, I don't think the heat bothers him normally: it was the 8 matches in 10 days in the blazing Toronto and Cinci heat that got to him. At least here there is always a day off between matches (at least unless a hurricane interferes. . . )

Hmm, I saw that tweet.  I really do hope he hasn't been putting in too much work in the last week !

As I have said Hurricane interference is a distinct possibility.

It's now looking like being Saturday before the arrival of Hurricane Earl so Andy's probable second round match on Friday should be okay.

Showers forecast for Friday and moderate winds for both Friday and Saturday according to weather.com
