Week 32 - Toronto Masters - QF : Andy vs David Nalbandian

Andy has only met Nalby twice before and the first time hardly as equals. 

The first was at the L32 stage of Andy's very first Wimbledon in 2005 when Nalby won 6 - 7  1 - 6  6 - 0  6 - 4  6 - 1.  As I mentioned in another thread, poor young Andy basically ran out of puff after gving Nalby quite a fright.

The other occasion was the Paris Masters QF in 2008 ( indoor hard ) when Nalby won   7 - 6 (3)  6 - 3.

Nalby is on an 11 match winning streak since he came back in July and beat Youzhny and Davydenko in the Davis Cup in Russia and then won the Washington title last week against some pretty good opposition.

He's continued his good play this week and I was impressed from what I caught of his win against Sod, rather more so than Andy's win against Monfils.

Frankly it's looking a big task for Andy here and he'll certainly have to up his game to near his top form, because I don't really see Nalby lowering his much.

Should be a fascinating match.  Action starts not before 1 pm local time ( 6 pm BST ), following a doubles match that starts off at 11 am.

Andy will need to play better than yesterday but I fully expect him to do so.

Andy very rarely plays he best unless some pushes him and despite it going to 3 sets you couldn't say that Monfils really pushed him. There was always a sense of the inevitable about how the third set would go.

After breaking Bandy in the first game it looked for a while as though Andy was going to hand the break straight back - but he held on for 2-0*
