RE: Week 32 - ATP 1000 - Rogers Cup, Toronto Masters (Hard)

And Nalby duly wins the Legg Mason title, beating Baghdatis  6 - 2  7 - 6 (4).

Yes, he was out quite a while, I really hope this and a posssible few early rounds in Toronto don't prove too tiring  wink.gif

Another zero pointer for Ross. This is seriously starting to hurt his ranking

Yes, he is now ( still ) carrying seven compulsory zero pointers.  One of these is Cincy which it would be good if he can get rid of one way or another next week.

Really at the moment it's just that they are zero that's hurting rather than that they are compulsory because they're only knocking out two counters totalling 38 points.  It would be more of an issue that way if he'd scored in more tournaments and may become more of an issue.

Fognini goes through to R2 after a straight forward win over Stepanek 6'2, 6'4.
Berdych beat Stako 6'2, 6'4.

Cilic just held serve after he and Troicki traded Ad a few times; Troicki leads 6'4, *4'5 and now it's 5-5 after a good hold to love for the Serbian.

Dolgopolov and Petzschner are into a 3rd set tie-break

Andy's match should start very shortly.

Trademark wobble at the beginning of the first set, which he eventually won by 7-5, but more comfortable in the second:  6-2! wink

Yes, X-man was pretty much waving a white flag by the end.

Some good play from Andy, some rubbish at the start (so what's new?). Still, he got the W.

Andy says that he felt the match was difficult, it was warm and the ball was bouncing high, but when he played a bit higher over the net it helped his game. He says he trained hard last week after taking Monday off. He's looking forwards to his match against Monfils, says its will be fun, albeit tough. He says he's found changing the pace a lot, using angles and chopping in a few slices against Monfils helps.

The H2H with Gael is 2-1 in Andy's favour, one each (on clay!) in 2006 and Andy winning on hard in 2008, 6-2 6-2. I can't remember if that was one of the many times Monfils had injury problems - he has so many!

I remember that one well, Mad. It was Madrid 2008, I watched it utterly rapt! I nicknamed Andy "Jigsaw" for the week because of the expert way in which he totally and utterly deconstructed Monfils' game. Stunning performance from Andy in that match.
