Job done, poor serving but helped by even poorer serving by Falla in set 2 (26% to Andy's 38%). Some excellent defence, some poor forehands into the net. Andy said it was cold and playing slow. His knee is sore due to change of surface and break since Wimbledon. Lucky that Falla dropped his level as this could have been quite tricky.
Not a classic performance by any means and a first serve percentage of just 42% is worrying but he showed typical grit to tough the match out. Afterwards he said the conditions were difficult is it was pretty cold and it played slow. Asked about his knee he said it was sore but he didn't think it would be too much of a problem in the semi.
Now that's done I am off to bed

I would expect some break after Wimbledon. But these soreness problems and his comments seem to suggest he hasn't done much at all since Wimbledon. I hope in fact he has been putting in a fair amount of work, since I though he'd realised in the last few months that he is best when he really does put in the work and practice.
First serve % very poor, but that's not a big story. Was just looking at the bottom of these listed in the Rioch ATP Matchfacts 1st Serve Percentage for this year, which contain some strartling information :
I had a look at the Rioch ATP Matchfacts 1st serve percentage statistics for this year, and on the list of 73 players there is someone who should be ashamed.
Step forward, Marcos Baghdatis ! Yes, he has a worse first serve % than Muzza.
I did do a paste and give more info on earlier post which may or may not reappear, since it looks like some posts containing links need to get past admin at the moment.
Oh - doesn't it show, Indy? It's on my computer, flagged as "spam", but I didn't realise non-mods couldn't see it! I'll see if I can find out how to let it through, I have never done it before!
Edit - Done it, I think!

I just got a message saying something like that it would need approved by Admin and then just saw no evidence of any post. I'd noticed someone else mentioning needing approval re links so I guessed this was just some new thing.

In fairness he probably hadn't put much work in because he wasn't planning to play until Montreal. Two weeks of doing nothing after Wimbledon followed by 3 weeks of work would have seemed perfectly reasonable. Plus his week in Miami was hampered by Tropical Storm Bonnie.
He will need to step up a gear tonight against Lopez or he will be in for a very tough time.
