Boys: European Junior Championships 2010, Switzerland - Grade B1 (Week 29)

just noticed this tourney, golding is in it next week, and apparently it is a 128 draw on clay, the first few rounds should be very straight foward

There are 3 age categories and each country is allowed to nominate 2 players in each (4 for the hosts and 1 for minnow nations). The British nominees are:

Under 18: Oliver Golding, Andrew Bettles - held in Klosters, Switzerland
Under 16: Luke Bambridge, Kyle Edmund - held in Moscow
Under 14: Joshua Sapwell, Peter Ashley - held in Pilsen, Czech Republic

draws are out, no idea how the seedings are done, kyle seeded 14, luke 15, despite luke being 10 on the entry list, and moving up over 100 places since then

Kyle and Luke are in the worst possible seeded places in the draw, seeded to meet the two top seeds and ITF top 100 players Mathias Bourgue and Miki Jankovic, in the last 16. Seedings are based on Tennis Europe rankings, which combine TE16 and ITF events. Kyle and Luke are currently ranked 30 and 31 on the combined rankings.

Under 18 R2 (L64)

Dor Belfer (ISA) v Richard Gabb (GBR)
Vullnet Tashi (SUI) or Andres Artunedo Martinavarr (ESP) v (10) Oliver Golding (GBR)

Under 16 R2 (L64)

Igor Saveljic (MNE) v (15) Luke Bambridge (GBR)
(14) Kyle Edmund (GBR) v Julius Tverijonas (LTU)

The boys in the Czech Republic have better positions in the draw than Luke and Kyle (who incidentally are seeded 4 in doubles).

Under 14 R2 (L64)

Simon Stevens (BEL) v (8) Joshua Sapwell (GBR)
Eleftherios Theodorou (GRE) v (9) Peter Ashley (GBR)

Ollie unfortunately is the first British singles casualty. His opponent is top 100 with good pedigree on clay, but nevertheless a disappointing result.

Under 18 R2 (L64)

Richard Gabb (GBR) d. Dor Belfer (ISR) 6-3 1-6 6-4
Andres Artunedo Martinavarr (ESP) d. (10) Oliver Golding (GBR) 3-6 6-1 7-5

L32

Richard Gabb (GBR) v Nik Razborszek (SLO)

Good news for Gabb.  He looks to have a nice draw to the quarters now.
