Boys & Girls: TIHTA 2010, Aruba - Grade 4 (Week 27)

Abbi Melrose is in the Caribbean for the first of two Grade 4s and has progressed well to the semis.  Although superficially her quarter-final win over the second seed looks the most impressive closer examination suggests that her second round opponent was much stronger - a young American who has reached the finals of her last 3 events, while the second seed's high ranking is owed to playing a series of weak Central American tournaments.

Laura Deigman went to Syria and Abbi is in Aruba.

I know where I'd rather be playing. (although Syria is supposed to have its moments)

Laura plays a lot in the Middle East, and will probably be particularly enjoying her latest visit having won a title. No title for Abbi though, who continues to be thwarted at the semifinal stage of ITF events (her 5th of the last year)

SF

Viktoria Lavrentyeva (RUS) d. d. (6) Abbi Melrose (GBR) 4-6 6-2 6-4
