Boys: Ex Pilsen Wilson Cup, Czech Republic - Grade 3 (Week 27)

Liam Broady has the task of making a quick transition from grass to clay in search of points to help towards reaching the US Open main draw. His draw against a wildcard should help. Luke Bambridge has a more difficult opener against someone who was in the top 200.

Round 1 (L32)

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) v (WC) Vaclav Safranek (CZE)
(LL) Joshua Ward-Hibbert (GBR) v Sebastian Richter (GER)
Luke Bambridge (GBR) v Wojciech Lutkowski (POL)

a nice suprise to see bambridge in the draw, choosing to step up to G3 rather than the G5 in GB

hoping for a broady/bambridge partnership in doubles, would help luke to rack up some points here

You'll be disappointed to learn that both opted for different partners - but pleased that both won in singles and doubles (in Luke's case 14-12 in the MTB partnering his second round opponent)

Round 1 (L32)

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) d. (WC) Vaclav Safranek (CZE) 6-1 6-1
Sebastian Richter (GER) d. (LL) Joshua Ward-Hibbert (GBR) 6-3 5-7 6-0
Luke Bambridge (GBR) d. Wojciech Lutkowski (POL) 6-3 6-4

Round 2

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) v Tim Srkala (SUI)
Luke Bambridge (GBR) v (2) Mac Styslinger (USA)

He did, so yes he'll move into the top 300, with just  Nikola Matojevic (the stand-out player in Tennis Europe events last year) and up to 3 Asian 1995 boys (depending on this week's results) ahead of him. Bizarrely there is one 1996 boy (Ronit Singh Bisht from India) who is well clear of all the 1995 boys, ranked just outside the top 100

Liam had a mixed day, strolling through in singles but losing in doubles  to Josh and partner.

Round 2

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) d. Tim Srkala (SUI) 6-0 6-1
Luke Bambridge (GBR) d. (2) Mac Styslinger (USA) 6-4 6-4

QF

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) v (5) Maxim Lunkin (RUS)
(Q) Dominik Haider (GER) v Luke Bambridge (GBR)

bambridge next opponent is one of those tricky ones which you dont know what to expect, really low junior ranking, doesnt have a senior ranking, and is 18 1/2, thou he has swept through the draw so far here

Another excellent day in the Czech Republic sees one title guaranteed and comfortable progress in the singles

QF

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) d. (5) Maxim Lunkin (RUS) w/o
Luke Bambridge (GBR) d. (Q) Dominik Haider (GER) 6-1 6-1

SF

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) v (3) Nik Razborszek (SLO)
(Q) Jan Hradsky (CZE) v Luke Bambridge (GBR)

Luke's opponent in the semi has won a match on the ATP Tour, so may be tricky

Doubles Final

Skripnik (ISR) / Ward-Hibbert (GBR) v Bambridge (GBR) / Styslinger (USA)

Sorry about the misleading phrasing - either way the Czech qualifier proved too strong for Luke and Liam had a scare before progressing. Luke still managed to come away with his maiden ITF title though

SF

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) d. (3) Nik Razborszek (SLO) 4-6 6-2 6-3
(Q) Jan Hradsky (CZE) d. Luke Bambridge (GBR) 7-5 6-4

Final

(1) Liam Broady (GBR) v (Q) Jan Hradsky (CZE)

Doubles Final

Bambridge (GBR) / Styslinger (USA) d. Skripnik (ISR) / Ward-Hibbert (GBR) 6-4 4-6 [10-7]
