Really pleased to have watched some of these juniors on tv for the first time ever. Was impressed by Golding. He reminded me of a mini soderling or del potro. But not as big a hitter and less consistent. I like his service motion, not too much can go wrong with that.
Didn't watch as much of the Broady match (was watching ollie) but not too dissapointed with him losing to Kudla, who is highly touted. Broadys service motion reminded me of someone, but couldnt quite place it. Any ideas guys?
Lewis Burton was another player who i've never seen, and when they walked on, I thought Burton was the short one.lol. Was pleased to see burton was not afraid to come to the net and served and volleyed 39% of the time. He looked the most accomplished at net out of the british players I watched today. Moreover, he showed great fight in the 2nd set tb when he hit a running backhand down the line when I thought the point was over. Shame he lost his nerve at the crux in the final set.
Watched some of the Hewitt match and he looks like an extremely athletic player. He has a lot of pop on his serve for a relatively smaller player. Though, unfortunately, he didn't get it in often enough and was out match played by Dzhumer.
They didn't show Marsalek but pleased he won. I am hopeful they will show his and ollie's match tommorow.

They are both on streamed courts, but Ollie is on at 11am, so let's hope the streams are started early. Kubler is on a tremendous run, having won all but 2 of his last 50 junior matches (plus a fair few Futures matches) and only dropped a couple of games today.
R3 Jason Kubler (AUS) (1) v Oliver Golding (GBR) 1st on court 14 Marton Fucsovics (HUN) (13) v James Marsalek (GBR) 3rd on court 12
Liam/Tom play their doubles 3rd on court 5 (following Eleanor/Laura) with Lewis/George fifth so may well be streamed
I was really keen to see how Liam played and as I have seen Ollie play quite a few times watched all of Liam's first set. Came out very confidently after playing so well in the first round but you always felt that his opponent would eventually get the upper hand even if it took 3 sets. Weird service action which I hope doesn't give him problems in his senior career. Assuming he develops physicially into a strong athlete should have a decent senior career.
Switched to Ollie's match after the first set, and saw basically the same player I saw at Newcastle last month. Against an opponent who couldn't match his power he always looked the likely victor. Never going to be the fastest mover but if he can continue to develop his power game with a consistency should IMO become a top 100 senior player in time.
Lewis also impressed me and certainly should be looking at a career in the top 300 or so in the rankings.
This is a question from someone who knows nothing whatsoever about junior development, but was intrigued by a comment Marsalek made. In essence, he seemed to be saying that he had stagnated at the NTC where he was part of a group; he then went to France, had two weeks with his own coach and has been doing very well since.
It's often noted that many really good juniors have left the UK and gone elsewhere for much of their training . But have they received more individual, as opposed to group, training abroad? And is that a reason for their success?
I'm watching it on Freeview... I had trouble yesterday with the streaming for the Dean match, alternating loss of picture/sound... I guess it's a case of keeping on trying until it works.
