Excellent win for James - it was a big ask to play someone like Velotti straight after such a major tournament success.
R2
Oliver Golding v (14) Juan Sebastian Gomez (COL) (9) Renzo Olivo (ARG) v (Q) Lewis Burton (WC) Ashley Hewitt v (6) Damir Dzumhur (BIH) (7) Denis Kudla (USA) v (WC) Liam Broady Jannick Lupescu (NED) v (WC) James Marsalek
Liam has a tough assignment against a highly-rated American, who like Liam has been able to get big-name hitting partners (Roddick, Querrey and the Bryan Brothers)
Marsalek is really in a great run of form at the moment and he has peaked just at the right time it looks like, and he could be a real threat in this tournament, and then cause some upsets in the GB futures over the summer.
Would expect him to get through round two, and would hope that Golding could get the win as well, and then maybe one of the others to cause what would on paper look like an upset.
David how good a win was James beating the no2 seed?
Is Velotti a clay-court guy?
Difficult to gauge. He reached the quarters here last year, and beat James 2 & 1 at Roehampton last year so can clearly play on grass. However Velotti has been playing Futures on clay mainly this year (beating French veteran Olivier Patience, who qualified for Roland Garros, in his last tournament). He wasn't on the original entry list here, and took a late wildcard, perhaps fancying another grand slam having just claimed the French. He may well have been underprepared, not having played singles at Roehampton this year.
Ollie 1st court 5 Liam 1st court 12 Lewis 3rd court 14 Ashley 4th court 14 James 3rd court 19
Also Luke/Kyle on a court TBA, so could end up on a streamed court (but probably won't)
Apart from streaming BBC2 are on air from 12 noon so Liam, or more likely Ollie, could well be shown in the first hour, considering the only other options are mixed doubles matches with no great stars.
