When Dean was on she pretty much ripped Ksenia to threads, but in the second she was a bit of an error machine, and the Russian exarcebated (sp???) the issue with some crafty play. At 4-1 down in the 3rd Dean found her form again and powered through.
I was super impressed by Dean. For a 14 year old she has a cool head on her shoulders. She played the same way throughout, going for winners even when losing. She kind of lacks defensive shots, and her movement is suspect, but these areas will undoubtedly improve as she gets older.
Onwards to a clash with the Pliskova twin that won Roehampton.
My thoughts on Dean are pretty much the same as has already been aired on here. First time i've seen her today. And wow, she hit harder than even i thought she would. She's considerably more powerful than Laura at the same age (and ever so slightly, even compared to today's laura). BUT. What was worrying is that there was no plan B and she tried to simply hit her way out of trouble. You could just feel the pain in the commentators' voice and by the end they were openly stating "just get it in". I shared their pain.
Nonetheless, I'm just pleased that she has the weapons to hurt opponents. Other parts of her game can improve with time.
14.25: @TaraMoore92 is through to the L16 - she will play (4) Karolina Plíková, the reigning AU Junior Champ she beat in the Roehampton QFs.
15.22: I seem to have predicted @TaraMoore92 will play (4) Pliskova before Karolina has played Abduraimova. I expect that to come true though!
18.06: Did I manage to jinx a pesky Pliskova twin earlier?! @TaraMoore92 will play Nigina Abduraimova UZB in the L16 of @Wimbledon Juniors!
ACE: You did! Ha!
All deliberate, of course ...
Though given that Tara beat that Pliskova in Roehampton last week, maybe I shouldn't claim any credit unless she beat Adburaimova too! Still, the winner plays the winner of Laura's match, and 'that' Pliskova was the one that beat Laura in the AO Final after Laura had beaten the Pliskova that Tara lost to last week.
If you're still following all this, you're doing very well!

I didn't see any of Eleanor's match, well save the last point, but I like very very much what I read.
She clearly has real weapons already and when she's good she's very good. I would think much more planning to her matches and much more consistency will come in time. I think how much more consistent Laura has steadily become.
Indeed in many ways it is similar thinking to that which I have had over time with Laura which make me very confident about Eleanor's future progression. To me what's much more relevant at this age is how good is she at her best, not how bad is she at her worse What already are the capabilities she shows.
From her results these last couple of months and what I read hear this to me simply looks extremely encouraging.
Well done Laura and Tara too and looks a good effort by Fran. Fran appears to me to have made significant strides forward in the last couple of months or so.

An excellent day with 3 wins, Eleanor showing much promise and Fran continuing to demonstrate her recent improvement. All should be viewable tomorrow, and as you would expect at this stage face tough matches. The Pliskova twins we know a lot about, while Mestach is another 1994 girl with a great future but Laura's extra power should be decisive. Abduraimova has won a match at WTA Tour level (Tashkent), but probably is unable to travel much, so ended up playing a recent Grade 4 event in Turkey (beating Katy in the final)
R3
(9) Kristyna Pliskova (CZE) v (WC) Eleanor Dean 1st on court 5 (8)Laura Robson v (11) An-Sophie Mestach (BEL) 2nd on court 5 Tara Moore v Nigina Abduraimova (UZB) 2nd on court 12
Wow Ellie Dean's power was impressive today. I must admit I watched Laura's match until 6-0 2-3 in the second when a sudden major dip in form as per Muzza v Querrey 5-3 40-15 in the first set saw me retreat to the computer as I couldn't stand watching anymore, glad to say she retrieved the situation as quickly as she got there in the first place. I couldn't believe how dominant she was in the first set, and maybe that was the problem for her in the second. She has a different style of play in the juniors compared to the seniors tending to be much more conservative and waiting for her opponent to make the mistake.
Getting back to Ellie who I watched during the second set when Laura's match was finished and was really struggling at that stage. The commentators were suggesting that her opponent took a while to warm up and that is why Ellie was able to take the first set. I was somewhat impressed at that stage with her power but alot of her shots were wild and going out. I stopped watching and later noted that she was losing 4-1 in the third so gave up any hope. Then suddenly from nowhere it was 5-4 with Ellie serving for the match. I watched that last game were she was still hitting it huge but not making the errors, showed no nerves despite serving a DF to go 0-15. Looking at the match stats on serve her service speeds for a 14 y/o are just ridiculous. I just hope she doesn't grow too much more as that might restrict her movement which is better than Laura's but not much.
Luckily tomorrow the OOP allows us to watch both matches in full.
Tara continues to maintain her high level of form, taking out Bouchard not a bad yardstick pretty comfortably. I would like to think that Laura will play Tara in the quarters. I don't see Ellie upsetting the inform Pliskova sister but hopefully she can give her a run for her money.
Here's the list of ladies singles players who've had a faster average 1st serve for any match on a show court during the tournament:
Serena Williams +8mph (faster in 5/5 matches) Venus Williams +7mph (faster in 4/5 matches) Sprem +7mph Sharapova +4mph (faster in 2/4 matches) Lucic +4mph Stosur +3mph Groth +2mph Kanepi +2mph Petrova +2mph Pironkova +2mph
The other 61 to make it onto a show court were as fast in a few case but mostly much slower: Agnieszka Radwanska, Alona Bondarenko, Amanmuradova, Anastasia Rodionova, Arn, Azarenka, Baltacha, Barrois, Bartoli, Brianti, Camerin, Chakvetadze, Chang, Cibulkova, Clijsters, Czink, De Brito, Dulgheru, Dushevina, Errani, Flipkens, Garbin, Goerges, Groenfeld, Hantuchova, Henin, Ivanovic, Jankovic, Jovanovski, Keothavong, Kerber, King, Kirilenko, Kleybanova, Kulikova, Kuznetsova, Kvitova, Li Na, Los Rios, Makarova, Malek, Martic, Molik, Niculescu, Olaru, Oprandi, Oudin, Pavlyuchenkova, Peer, Pennetta, Perry, Scheepers, Schiavone, Sevastova, South, Strycova, Watson, Wickmayer, Wokniacki, Wozniak, Zakopalova
Unsurprisingly, here's the list of players who've had a faster average 2nd serve:

In Andy Murray's 4 matches so far, here also is a list of when either Andy or his opponent had a higher average 2nd serve speed then Eleanor's 99 MPH :
Yes, none, Sam Querrey rated a mighty 95 MPH, which was closest.
I did check Andy Roddick's 2nd serve vs Lu out of interest. He smashes Eleanor by a whole 8 MPH at 107 MPH ( Lu was 95 MPH )
I'm thinking she might try reining it in just a little and develop a more controlled consistent 2nd serve though no doubt still relatively fast.
