I thought it was inevitable that Laura would not win Wimbledon this time, particularly coming in to her first junior event for 5 months as a late wildcard, which didn't demonstrate the necessary commitment required to tackle such an event. The Age Eligibility Rule may force her to look for one or two more junior events - possibly the Junior Fed Cup and its European Summer Cup qualifier as well as the US Open. If so hopefully she can prepare fully for them, have success and then leave her junior career fully behind.
Watched the second set of this match in full and what was the most obvious issue was her very lazy foot movement in preparation for her groundshots. Never going to her strongest link but it had been adequate up to her last couple of matches. She was relying on her great hands but once the rallies extended beyond a certain length the error would eventually come. Serve percentage was not good but even when the first serve was landed the other girl was making decent returns. However it does go to show how much Laura has improved that she can play so badly and still be in a position to win both sets. Pliskova should win the final but this girl hopefully will give her a decent match.
Laura has played alot of tennis in the last couple of months and I suspect is a little bit tired physicially and mentally hence the negative body language shown yesterday. Could do with a short break ideally, but is entered to play Woking and Wrexham starting in ten days time.
I'd imagine she'll play the Commonwealth Games as an extra tournament to get around the age eligibility restrictions. Bizarrely, she can't compete in the Youth Olympics as she's too young!
