Girls: AEGON Junior International, Roehampton - Grade 1 (Weeks 24-25)

The qualifying draw for Roehampton has been published, with Jo Henderson the only Brit seeded to join our 8 wildcards (see separate thread). Elisha Gabb and Fran Stephenson are missing from the acceptance list, though it is possible that one has been given a wildcard if Jennifer Ren made the cut on ranking. Two rounds of qualifying are played on Thursday with the main draw starting Sunday.

Might go and watch this for a bit if I get a bit bored at Roehampton after Lisa finishes. Do you know if generally anyone goes to watch or would I be literally the only person there who isn't connected to any of the players in some way?

Sorry I didn't see your message in time Josh - hope you enjoyed it if you did go. Jo squeaked through on a third set tiebreak, and there were two very good wins over top 100 players by Nottingham finalist Ruth Seaborne and Laura Deigman

Yeah I did go for about half an hour, watched some of Henderson, Seaborne and Ellie Ball's matches.

Lots of last minute withdrawals mean Natallie & Jennifer go straight into the main draw and there are 5 lucky losers, 3 of them brits. Tough draws go to Abbi Melrose, Jessica Ren and Eleanor Dean (although Monica Puig hadn't played on grass until last week where she lost in the 2nd round to a player ranked 161)

LL KEENS, Taro (GBR) vs Q HERRING, Lauren (USA)
BEAZANT, Natalie (GBR) vs EIKERI, Ulrikke (NOR)
LL BALL, Elliesa (GBR) vs LL NAIK, Adnya (IND)
Q DEIGMAN, Laura (GBR) vs Q VEKIC, Donna (CRO)
WC MELROSE, Abbi (GBR) vs PLISKOVA, Karolina (CZE) 3
WC BROWN, Lucy (GBR) vs OMAE, Akiko (JPN)
WC STEPHENSON, Francesca (GBR) vs ESKENAZI, Agustina Sol (ARG)
WC MOORE, Tara (GBR) vs JAKSIC, Jovana (SRB)
WC REN, Jessica (GBR) vs KOLAR, Nastja (SLO) 5
Q SEABORNE, Ruth (GBR) vs YSIDORA, Grace Sari (INA)
WC DUNNE, Katy (GBR) vs ERIC, Doroteja (SRB)
LL FOSTER, Manisha (GBR) vs MIN, Grace (USA)
REN, Jennifer (GBR) vs OZAKI, Risa (JPN)
Q HENDERSON, Joanna (GBR) vs COSTA MELGAR, Cecilia (CHI)
WC DEAN, Eleanor (GBR) vs PUIG, Monica (PUR) 2

One ray of hope for those with seeded opposition: between them Puig, Pliskova & Kolar have a grass court record of won 2 matches, lost 3.

Urgh why are our British WCs magnetically attracted to the top seeds! Same for the boys.

Impressive from all 4 winners, and a few honourable mentions in there!

A great start from Tara, she certainly could get some confidence from this week.

Don't know what you are talking about:

BEAZANT (GBR) / BROWN (GBR) vs KHROMACHEVA (RUS) / PUIG (PUR) 1
DALY (GBR) / KEENS (GBR) vs PLISKOVA (CZE) / PLISKOVA (CZE) 2
DEAN (GBR) / MOORE (GBR) vs GAVRILOVA (RUS) / PUTINTSEVA (RUS) 5
FOSTER (GBR) / KATO (JPN) vs BOUCHARD (CAN) / EIKERI (NOR) 8

DEIGMAN (GBR) / MELROSE (GBR) vs BRITO (CHI) / ESKENAZI (ARG)
SEABORNE (GBR) / STEPHENSON (GBR) vs SEZER (TUR) / SHEAHAN (AUS)
REN (GBR) / REN (GBR) vs BALL (GBR) / JAKSIC (SRB)
BORTHWICK (GBR) / HENDERSON (GBR) vs HERRING (USA) / MIN (USA)

I'd be surprised at anything other than the top 2 seeds in the final.

Ouch :(

Does anyone think Tara is going to revert to juniors for a few months and then return to seniors when shes had more match play?

No Katy Dunne in doubles?? cry.gif

Hopefully she can take a set off Babos but I fear it might only be Tara in round 3.

I doubt it - the next few months are a quiet period on the Junior calendar. A couple of clay G1's in Germany/Austria but nothing competitive on a hard court until the week before the US open.
